This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.

S., 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

JOB SUMMARY

This classification is located in the Emergency Medical Services Division of the Fire Department with the City of Oklahoma City.

The Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Paramedic is responsible for providing enhanced medical services to frequent 911 callers and people with non-emergent medical complaints as part of a co-response partnership with a Behavioral Health Navigation Responder.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs emergency field patient care providing basic and advanced medical care procedures in accordance with documented protocols and practices.
  • Provides non-emergency paramedic medical care to patients with non-emergent referrals and medical needs.
  • Performs in-home welfare checks and assessments for patients with non-emergent referrals.
  • Assists patients with scheduling appointments for medical care and provides transportation to scheduled appointments.
  • Serves as an advocate for patients by assisting them with access to community services.
  • Partners with Oklahoma City Fire Department personnel and Community Health Care Providers and Services to determine patient’s medical care needs.
  • Coordinates with Mobile Integrated Health team members and partners to facilitate and provide patient follow-up care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Licensed Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Oklahoma Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Licensure.
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Licensure.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
  • Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Skill in writing routine reports and correspondence.

  • Skill in using tact and persuasiveness to obtain patient cooperation.
  • Ability to work independently, think and act properly in emergencies, establish and maintain effective working relationships with Oklahoma City Fire Department staff, other healthcare professionals, and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of healthcare professionals, law enforcement representatives, First Responder organizations, Fire Department personnel, and the public, either formally, informally or through various educational or public relations endeavors.
  • Ability to continue Emergency Medical Service education and maintain certifications as required by company policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily subject to standing, walking, talking, or using a telephone for extended periods of time.
  • Possible exposure to various risks to include needles, body fluids, chemicals, and biological hazards.
  • Subject to making life or death decisions during emergency conditions.
  • Possible exposure to grotesque sights and smells associated with traumas.
  • Substantial time spent outside subject to heat, cold, humidity, rain, etc.
  • Occasionally required to work hours beyond normal working hours and / or weekends.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel for seminars, meetings, etc., some local travel required.

Note : Typical City employee working hours are 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8 : 00 a.

m. and / or end beyond 5 : 00 p.m., and / or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit / department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Arm and hand steadiness and finger dexterity enough to operate medical equipment, keyboards, etc.
  • Near vision enough to read written and machine generated documents such as electrocardiogram (EKG), computer generated reports, standardized forms, basic life support (BLS) equipment, medication bottles, etc.
  • Speech and hearing enough to communicate in person, by telephone and in group speaking situations.
  • Visual acuity enough to see in poorly lit conditions.
  • Flexibility enough to maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Flexibility enough to reach, stoop, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Stamina enough to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Pay Method : City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.

Background Investigation, Drug Testing, Physical Examination : Upon a conditional offer of employment / acceptance of position, the City of Oklahoma City will conduct a criminal history background check for external applicants.

If the position accepted includes a driver license (commercial or non-commercial) Job Requirement, the City of Oklahoma City will obtain a Motor Vehicle Report for internal and external applicants.
