Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs a shift of factory processing employees, assigns work stations, provides training and ensures adequate support in each phase of processing
- Trains, coaches and evaluates factory processors, leading by example, demonstrating leadership skills and striving toward continuous improvement
- Assists in operating the factory as directed by the Factory Manager, and company goal and objectives
- Assists in supervising the production of quality products to meet quality specifications in accordance with production schedules and fish availability
- Assists in the appropriate levels of labor, the general conformance with employment policies, the issuing of warnings and the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and equitable manner when necessary
- Assists in coordinating the flow of production between shifts, and communicating all pertinent information on production activities and problems to other counter foreperson on the next shift
- Assists in the management of internal programs such as communications, performance evaluations, training, and assignment of work and crew share determinations
- Carries out production priorities as directed by Factory Manager
- Communicates and enforces established quality standards for all products and grades; develops and implements methods to measure, monitor and test such standards
- Takes a personal interest in all reports of injury occurring in the production areas, initiates investigation and corrects all unsafe conditions immediately
- Upholds and professionally represents company policies and standards consistently and uniformly
- Assists in the planning and carrying out of factory safety briefings each season and each trip that new processors join the vessel to ensure a complete understanding of proper processing equipment use and safety emergency stops
- Encourages employee communications and an open door policy
- Keep production employees informed of the company rules and policies and production and quality expectations
- Consistently supports and adheres to the company’s zero tolerance alcohol and drug policy
- Makes recommendations to factory manager of factory modifications to improve quality and production
- Notifies the factory manager of all potentially serious personnel situations for feedback and guidance
- Participates in training programs within the company and those sponsored outside the company which will provide self-improvement
- Actively participates in group interviews and new employee orientations prior to the fishing season
- Handles all employee personnel matters with confidentiality, sensitivity and in accordance with company and legal guidelines
Skill and Experience Required
- Fundamental knowledge of production principles, techniques, methods and disciplined in the application
- 3 years in a seafood production environment with at least two years of increasingly responsible lead / or quality control experience
- High aptitude for problem solving and troubleshooting
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Above-average computer experience in a Windows environment
- Must have good interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and to effectively communicate with others
- Must be available to employees to provide advice and counsel when appropriate
- Solid understanding of employment law and EEOC compliance
- Ability to motivate, constructively criticize and build high production teams through exemplary leadership
- Ability to create thorough, concise documentation of personnel matters
- Excellent judgment
Physical Ability
- Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug tests.
- Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gang plank or using a Jacob’s ladder.
- Must climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs, or vertical ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions as extreme as 30 degrees below zero.
- Ability to repetitively lift boxes of up to 55 pounds for long hours.
- Must be 18 or older
Work Schedule
12 hours or more per day for the duration of the trip, including loading and unloading
Ability to work at sea for extended periods of time
Pay : Estimated $5,600 - $8,000 per trip (average is two trips per month)
