Talascend is currently seeking an experienced Nuclear Design Engineer for a long-term contract career opportunity, 100% remote.

OVERVIEW :
Join our team of nuclear engineering experts, contributing to the design and analysis on their molten chloride fast reactor (MCFR) project.
You'll play a crucial role in optimizing fuel management, conducting sensitivity studies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform core design and analysis activities of advanced nuclear reactors, including fuel management optimization, reactivity coefficients, control rod worth and shutdown margin, and radiation damage.
- Develop neutronics models of advanced reactor systems with complex geometry.
- Configure and augment existing neutronics analysis software for new constraints, assumptions or control algorithms.
- Establish and maintain documentation of analysis results and neutronic design solutions.
- Contribute to early design efforts of commercial applications of MCFR technology.
- Interface with a multi-disciplinary and cross functional design team.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or equivalent; Advanced degree preferred with 2+ years of nuclear analysis experience.
- Knowledge of nuclear reactor design concepts or willingness to quickly learn.
- Experience in core design and analysis, including fuel cycle analysis, calculation of radiation damage rate, calculation of reactivity coefficients and calculation of control rod worth.
- Experience with nuclear engineering software such as ARMI, MCNP, DIF3D, MC2, PARTISN, Serpent, OpenMC, Attila, GRIFFIN, PROTEUS, SCALE, PARCS, APA, CASMO, DRAGON, etc.
- Good working knowledge of nuclear and / or general numerical methods (e.g. PDEs, dynamics, deterministic and stochastic particle transport, isotopic depletion, perturbation theory, nuclear data, kinetics, etc.).
- Strong programming skills in any language is a plus, preference for Python, C++, Git, and Github experience.
- Experience with CAD (Solidworks, Creo, etc.) is required and experience with generation of unstructured meshes is preferred.
- Desired experience in transient analysis, thermal hydraulics, and MCFR and / or fast reactor operations.
- Ability to perform professional-quality software development and strong programming skills are a plus.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills, with professionalism in regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with working in NQA-1 environments.
