Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Smith Center alongside Starbucks develops leaders who drive business success by doing the right thing for team members, customers, and communities.

The General Manager brings the Starbucks experience to life at The Smith Center by managing store operations, driving financial success, building great teams, and creating a community meeting place in Symphony Park.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Build and grow a successful business : drive sales by leveraging your business acumen, efficiency, and problem-solving skills.
  • Complete opening, daily, and closing procedures / checklists in accordance with company policies / procedures.
  • Assign work tasks and activities, prepare schedules, and ensure that all shifts are covered.
  • Works in alignment with Finance and Operations to prepare, report, and analyze financial and operational data and reports to monitor progress toward unit goals and assigns team members to meet those objectives.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving goods, processing invoices, and managing vendors for supply chain issues / product availability.
  • Proactively maintain proficiency in management information systems and provide thoughtful recommendations when needed for tools like POS, Time & Labor, scheduling, payroll, and other programs as utilized by the company.
  • Use all operational tools available to plan for and achieve operational excellence in the store. Such as Teaching and Training, Inventory, Cash Handling, Clean and Maintained Stores, and Business Analysis.
  • Develop and deploy staff and resources to maximize profitability within the store and manages P&L responsibility alongside TSC management.

Team Leadership and Development

Build a customer service-centric team; work with Human Resources and Marketing to create a recruitment strategy, interview job candidates, and make hiring, estimation, advancement, promotion, and any other staffing and status decisions necessary to lead the business.

Promotes The Smith Center Starbucks as a premier work environment.

  • Ensure on-boarding and off-boarding of all store team members, including activities related to compliance with proper badging requirements, orientation, health and safety, and other company training / processes.
  • Continually assess the skill levels of team members and conduct and coordinate on-the-job and other training / education activities as necessary.
  • Display a customer-comes-first attitude by training and holding team members accountable for delivering world-class customer service.
  • Create and drive the implementation of store programs by developing action plans and directly motivating and instructing the store team to implement them to meet operational and organizational objectives.
  • Create clear goals, provide feedback, perform regular talent assessments, and recognize store team members for their contributions and performance;

support company recognition initiatives and develop and implement plans that motivate.

Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable TSC and Starbucks brand standards, licensed agreements, and all procedures and protocols provided to maximize brand / licensee / team relations, and continually teach and train these standards to team members.

Health and Safety

Maintain an in-depth understanding of all federal, state, and local sanitary, safety, and health standards, and all procedures and protocols to comply with the law;

reports and works alongside company department management to address and rectify any safety issues.

  • Hold team members accountable for ensuring all safety standards are understood and followed.
  • Train new team members in wellness check protocols and be proactively aware and adhere to any new health and safety requirements as required by law.
  • Actively ensure all team members take all required rest breaks and meal periods.
  • Monitor and maintain restaurant equipment in good working order, and schedule routine service or repairs as needed.

Community and Brand Stewardship

  • Implement marketing and brand initiatives, community programs, and promotional activity as directed by TSC and the Starbucks Reward Program, both in-store and through the Starbucks Card and App.
  • Manage all required merchandising and store signage as well as necessary consents.
  • Implement and maintain guest experience comment or feedback programs as required.
  • Create an environment for customers, neighbors, guests and patrons to connect with the community through programs and experiences.
  • Serve as an ambassador for The Smith Center and Symphony Park; effectively demonstrating the mission, vision, values and impact to the community at large.

Required Education, and Experience

  • 3 years retail / customer service management experience
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in food and beverage
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in handling monetary transactions and basic accounting principles and practices
  • Entrepreneurial mentality with experience in a sales-focused environment
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach and mentor team partners with professional maturity
  • Minimum High School or GED

  • Ability to examine and evaluate data and report findings
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software and technology platforms as needed
  • Ability to manage a range of styles and behaviors in a tactful, congenial, respectful, and constructive manner
  • Ability to think proactively and identify solutions to maximize department effectiveness
  • Ability to work shifts during various operating days and hours each week; during opening, during busy day parts, and during closing;

including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook
  • High proficiency in point-of-sale systems and familiarity with HCM, time & labor, scheduling, and payroll systems

  • Most of this job will be performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment
