Description
The Core Program at Oglethorpe University, an undergraduate, liberal arts college in Atlanta, invites applications to an ongoing pool of qualified part-time temporary lecturers to teach occasional courses in our interdisciplinary core curriculum.
Applicants should be able to contribute to one or more of the following subject areas : Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach 4-unit courses in their area of expertise.
Oglethorpe’s core curriculum provides a common intellectual experience for each Oglethorpe student that fulfills the general education requirement through a sequence of interdisciplinary courses, most of which are year-long.
These sequences, which extend over all four years of a student’s collegiate career, feature the reading of a number of primary texts common to all sections of the courses, and frequent writing assignments.
Each course in the sequence builds upon the body of knowledge studied in the previous course. Courses in the fine arts and in mathematics complement these sequences.
The program explicitly invites students to integrate their core learning and to consider knowledge gained from study in the core as they approach study in their majors.
Each course is taught by faculty from a range of disciplines, and faculty work together through frequent conversation about the content and goals of their core courses to provide an integrated approach to learning.
