Peer Support Specialist
Pay Range : $17.00 to $19.00 per hour plus shift differentials
Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a person with lived experience with mental illness to work part time with our Mobile Crisis Team who provides office and community-based interventions for people experiencing a mental health crisis.
As a Peer Support Specialist, you will be assisting individuals and families experiencing a psychiatric crisis, many of whom have a co-occurring substance use disorder.
You will work with a team of professionals including first responders, healthcare providers, and community-based agencies to stabilize a psychiatric crisis situation, avoid hospitalization and / or incarceration, and initiate immediate community-based treatment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a clinician to respond to various community settings to provide intervention support to clients and community members experiencing a psychiatric crisis.
- Provide an advocacy role on the team; offer client-centered perspectives to promote recovery.
- Promote crisis stabilization and recovery by drawing upon one's own lived experience.
- Assess individual's needs and identify necessary services and supports.
- Assist the individual with accessing services and supports in a timely manner.
- Provide recovery-focused services to promote self-care, illness self-management, and recovery.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Respond to all communication in a timely and consistent manner.
- Perform duties in a manner consistent with established peer support ethical guidelines and professional boundaries.
- Participate in team and agency meetings, training, and supervision as assigned.
- Attain and maintain Peer Certification.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Relevant work experience and / or college-level education in the human service field is preferred
- Lived experience with a willingness to disclose information about personal recovery and successful management of mental health challenges is required.
- A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance or access to a reasonable alternative are required.
- Peer Support certification that is endorsed by the State of NH, or a willingness to pursue certification is required.
- Training in crisis intervention as a Peer Support Specialist is preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours to ensure the provision of crisis interventions and required documentation
