Job Type : Full-time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Reports to : Clinic Manager / Regional Manager
Location : Various locations at Yuba Sutter Area (travel required)
Summary :
The Traveling Technician is responsible for providing technical support and assisting optometrists and ophthalmologists in vision clinics across multiple locations.
This role involves traveling to various clinic locations to ensure the smooth operation of diagnostic equipment, assist in patient care, and perform routine maintenance on vision equipment.
The ideal candidate is flexible, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
The Traveling Technician will provide support as needed for multiple clinics in one of three Districts (Northern, Central or Southern).
They will facilitate the smooth and efficient processing of new and returning patients through testing and treatment procedures, strive to anticipate the needs of patients and doctors, model pleasant, professional, and collaborative behavior, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Traveling to Clinics : Travel to various vision clinics as scheduled, ensuring timely arrival to assist with patient care and equipment setup.
- Patient Assistance : Prepare patients for eye examinations by conducting preliminary tests, recording medical histories, and explaining procedures.
- Equipment Operation : Set up and operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment (e.g., autorefractors, visual field machines) to conduct necessary pre-exam tests.
- Technical Maintenance : Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on diagnostic and other ophthalmic equipment.
- Documentation : Maintain accurate records of services provided, equipment maintenance, and patient data in accordance with clinic policies.
- Team Support : Collaborate with clinic staff, including optometrists and ophthalmologists, to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care.
- Compliance : Follow clinic protocols, safety standards, and HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality and safety.
- Inventory Management : Monitor and report the need for supplies and equipment at each clinic location to the appropriate department.
- Training and Education : Assist in training new clinic staff on the operation of diagnostic tools and general clinic procedures as required.
Greet patients in a professional and pleasant manner
- Obtain and document history in chart on EHR
- Perform pre-exam tests, including A / R, confrontational field, stereo vision, color vision, lensometer reading, visual acuity, pupil check, motility, IOP’s and dilation
Essential Functions :
- Perform diagnostic testing OCT, fundus and slit-lamp photos, visual field
- Assist doctor with minor procedures
- Clean and autoclave instruments
- Anticipate and communicate with the other technicians to ensure proper patient flow
Auxiliary Functions :
- Refer patient questions regarding diagnoses or test results to the doctor
- Complete clinic opening & closing procedures
- Monitor and stock procedure and exam rooms
- Assist doctor in satellite offices as needed
- Inventory medical / back-office supplies, report low stock to Lead Technician
- Submit prescription refills and pre-authorization requests
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned
Requirements :
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of clinical testing equipment and proper testing procedures
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures to provide direction and ensure consistency within the team
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees at all levels
- Skilled in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment and decision making
- Skilled in maintaining a consistently pleasant, collaborative, and professional demeanor
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patient, company, and employee information.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to logically approach clinic problems / issues, establish facts and recommend appropriate resolutions
- Ability to maintain an organized work area and meet departmental and organizational deadlines
Education and Training :
Minimum Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be willing and able to travel 1-3 times weekly
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have and maintain a valid California driver's license and auto insurance
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and flexibility within a team environment
- Some medical office / medical field experience required
Physical Requirements / Typical Working Conditions - Environment : Primarily a temperature-controlled facility.
- Work may require prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate clinical testing equipment, a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.
- Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate in person, by phone, or over video.
- Requires occasional lifting of papers or boxes up to 30 pounds.
- Position requires travel by car
Essential Physical Tasks :
- Sight sufficient to read physical documents, and images on a computer monitor
- Smell sufficient to discern smoke / something burning, and other odors
- Hear sufficient to hold face to face / telephone / video call conversations, and to discern other ambient noises
- Touch sufficient to operate keyboard, mouse, other standard office equipment, and writing implements
- Physical ability / strength sufficient to lift, twist, turn, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, bend as needed throughout a standard shift
