The Licensed Substance Use Clinician performs a variety of individual, family and group therapeutic interventions, and is familiar with best practices for a variety of client populations.

This position manages a caseload of clients by identifying therapeutic, rehabilitative and case management needs, engaging other team members in meeting these needs as indicated.

The Licensed Substance Use Clinician collaborates with the MD, the treatment team, and various agencies in order to obtain needed services for patients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Completes biopsychosocial evaluation (BPSE), integrating information gathered by the team and developing the integrated diagnostic summary;

based upon the BPSE and in consultation with the treatment team, prepares Clinical Treatment plans, consults with client, family and treatment team throughout the process

Manages a caseload of clients by identifying therapeutic, rehabilitative and case management needs; engages other team members in meeting these needs as indicated;

provides quality case management services as indicated by client need; monitors client progress and reflects this in the clinical documentation

  • Provides consultation for primary care patients to assess for substance use disorders and link to appropriate services
  • Performs a variety of individual, family and group therapeutic interventions, and is familiar with best practices for a variety of client populations
  • Advocates for clients to ensure access to needed services which include developing community relationships and resources
  • Meets agency standards of timely completion of all documentation
  • Meets agency standards of client service hours
  • Identifies any high-risk client symptoms or circumstances that would result in risk for self-harm or harm to others and notifies appropriate higher level clinical staff for consultation
  • Continuously evaluates clients' needs and progress, reporting to the treatment team (PCP / psychiatrist)
  • Identifies community resources and assists clients in their access to these resources
  • Provides indirect service to external agencies and community through consultation and education
  • Interprets and applies service and billing procedures according to client needs; completes billing according to guidelines for timeliness and accuracy
  • Alters activities and behaviors to reflect and ensure adequate care which is appropriate to the age of the clients served
  • Serves as a clinical resource for less experienced staff
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by actively participating in clinical supervision

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work plus three years of experience in a mental health setting required
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required
  • Qualified Behavioral Health Professional status
  • Basic knowledge of psychopharmacology for common mental health disorders that is within appropriate scope of practice
  • Experience with evidence-based counseling techniques

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions
  • Ability to perform duties independently
  • Ability to recognize own limitations and seek assistance / guidance from appropriate resources as needed
  • Understanding of and ability to implement a strengths-based, community treatment model
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to be both clear and concise in written and verbal communications
  • Advanced knowledge of psychiatric / addiction diagnoses and understanding of their impact on behavior and all life domains
  • Demonstrates solid knowledge of psychotropic medications and their uses and side effects
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex directives, information and regulations
  • Crisis intervention skills
  • Leadership and team building ability
  • Experience and training to safely manage and provide therapeutic services to patients receiving medication assisted treatment
  • Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced primary care office
  • Knowledge of the inner workings of a family practice office
  • Knowledge of federal confidentiality laws related to substance abuse
