BSA / AML Investigator
The BSA / AML Investigator supports the organization's compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. This role is responsible for reviewing potentially suspicious financial activity, monitoring high-risk accounts, and documenting findings in accordance with internal policies and regulatory expectations. The individual will collaborate with compliance staff, front-line teams, and other business units, as well as interact with regulators or law enforcement when necessary. Key Responsibilities
- Investigate alerts and unusual account activity to identify potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or other illicit financial activity.
- Perform enhanced due diligence reviews on high-risk customers and accounts.
- Document case findings in the compliance system with clear, accurate, and complete details.
- Escalate concerns and present investigation results to senior compliance staff when appropriate.
- Assist with maintaining and enhancing departmental procedures for monitoring and reporting.
- Stay informed of evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices to strengthen compliance efforts.
- Provide recommendations on risk mitigation strategies to management.
- Support departmental projects and other tasks as assigned.
- Adhere to all company compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
Qualifications Required
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general office applications.Strong professionalism with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.Strong organizational and time management skills.Effective written and verbal communication abilities.Ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive discussions appropriately.High school diploma or equivalent.At least one year of experience in a BSA, AML, or compliance-related function.At least three years of professional experience within financial services.Preferred
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, criminal justice, or a related field.Relevant certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or CAFP (Certified AML and Fraud Professional).Experience with AML case management or transaction monitoring systems (e.g., Verafin or similar).
