Exciting new contract to hire position with an established firm. You will need to be local to Oakland, CA, and work onsite at the office once a week as needed.
This position is responsible for all payroll processing services including administration of the client’s
payroll and associated customer service. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to federal, state and local legal requirements, client payroll policies and the collective bargaining agreements.
Is also responsible for Kronos timekeeping, General Ledger Payroll accounts analysis and other payroll functions.
Contract Duration : 6 Months
Required Skills & Experience
Knowledge federal, state and local laws and payroll / tax regulations.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, payroll policies & procedures, and the client’s accounting structure.
Organizational / time management and prioritization skills. Ability to work independently.
Working knowledge of Oracle HRMS and Kronos systems.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
MS Excel - must have experience working heavily in MS Excel including Pivot Tables and V-Lookups
- Union experience
- CA Labor Law experience
- Experience processing payroll for an enterprise level company
- Experience working in ADP, Kronos, SAP, Peoplesoft or similar software
- Team player - this is not an individual contributor type role
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred, but candidates with proven experience will not be excluded from consideration

What You Will Be Doing
Daily Responsibilities
- Responsible for transmitting the two Health Equity files : Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Equity Savings
- Analyze all payroll bank accounts and resolve variances
- Review monthly bank statement for outstanding check; send appropriate letter to current and former employees and collaborate with Accounting on escheating the checks to the State
- Balance payroll on a bi-weekly basis
- Balance and transmit files to third party vendors
- Perform back up responsibilities to the payroll analyst and payroll specialist positions
- Perform duties mentioned in the Payroll Specialist position
- Performs bi-weekly payroll for management and hourly staff, including a cost analysis and balancing of pay funding for each payroll reported to finance.
- Performs system data maintenance and control, including the calculation of and update to system earnings, tax and deduction tables as interpreted from legal mandates
- Performs compliance functions within generally accepted guidelines for accounting standards and audit control; works with internal and external auditors on regular reviews of process and controls to ensure full compliance
- Responds to inquiries, resolves pay issues and answers employee and management questions
- Provides regular and ongoing support to Kronos users
- Overall responsibility for Kronos timekeeping database with regard to new hires, badge changes and terminations
- Responsible for processing garnishments and mailing said payments bi-weekly
- Responsible for monthly reporting of union dues, completing and payment of said dues and fees
- Assisting with year-end reporting, W2 statements
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned
