Correctional Counselor (Ontario) Multiple positions including underfill and developmental rotation! Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Correctional Counselor may be considered as an underfill in the Entry Correctional Counselor classification.

An underfill must meet the minimum qualifications for the lower classification and would receive the pay in accordance with the lower classification's salary range until they meet the minimum qualification for the full position.

At that time the successful candidate would be moved to the higher classification and salary range. The salary range for the underfill is : $4,791-6,023.

Preference may be given to candidates who can meet the full qualifications.

This position includes the option of a job rotation anticipated to last 12 months, though may be extended or decreased due to business need.

A rotation is available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Correctional Enterprises, or Oregon Board of Parole, Probation, and Post-Prison Supervision with their current manager's approval.

Internal candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications for this classification may be considered as a developmental.

Developmental candidates are not eligible for Work Out of Class Differential. Preference may be given to those who meet the minimum qualifications for the classification.

Snake River Correctional Facility Correctional Rehabilitation Services is looking to hire one permanent full-time position and to offer one developmental or work out of class opportunity for 12 months, for a total of two positions.

Do you have experience working with clients to break down the barriers that are impeding positive change? If so, we are expanding our team and seeking an experienced professional case manager like you.

This employment opportunity is with the Correctional Services division of the Oregon Department of Corrections.

The correctional case manager balances a caseload of adults in custody to connect them with programs and resources, advocate on their behalf, provide insight and guidance, and manage their correction rehabilitation while they are in the care of the department.

The right person for this job has experience monitoring clients to create and monitor plans, an understanding of Oregon correctional principles, and a desire to help create a better and safer Oregon.

The Correctional Services division is responsible for carrying out the Oregon Department of Corrections mission to reduce the risk of future criminal conduct by those offenders who are either incarcerated or transitioning from prison back into the community and for those offenders on supervision in the community.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications

Correctional Counselor

A bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field with major coursework in a behavioral science AND two years of professional counseling experience that must include providing supportive counseling to clients on a one-to-one basis with full responsibility for handling each case plan in a social service or rehabilitative program.

Three years of experience in a social service or rehabilitative program with primary responsibility for guiding or counseling individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal, or social problems and managing a case plan may substitute for the bachelor's degree.

A master’s degree in behavioral science or criminal justice may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Underfill as an Entry Level Correctional Counselor ($4,791-6023) :

A bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field with major coursework in behavioral science;

OR Three years of experience in a social service or rehabilitative program with primary responsibility for guiding or counseling individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal, or social problems and managing a case plan may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.

Note : Experience in any security series position in and of itself does not substitute for the required minimum qualifications.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.

Requirements for Employment

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.

However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
