Position Summary
The invites candidates who can enthusiastically inspire and engage students as a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program .
Candidates should have the ability to teach seated, remote, and online courses.
Academic Responsibilities and Essential Functions :
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of subject matter.
- Provides students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in assigned subject(s).
- Evaluates students’ performance and provides effective and timely feedback to guide student learning and success.
- Responsible for contributing and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative environment.
- Enter grades and attendance into software used by Center.
- Engages in the classroom, replies to emails and voicemails, and holds on-campus or online office hours.
- Maintains knowledge in one’s own discipline-related area by participating in professional development.
- Delivers tests and certifications following all procedures.
- Delivers a comprehensive instructional program of study correlated to the approved concentration of commercial vehicle operation.
- Responsible for creating the curriculum. Designs instruction to teach and reinforce the skills related to truck driving theory and directly supervising students in the classroom, parking lot, and on-the-road setting.
- Responsible for completing and maintaining all documentation required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) under Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) Regulations.
- Complies with federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
- Implements, evaluates, and constantly looks to improve the CDL Program of study.
- Monitors student progress toward mastery of the instructional goals and objectives of the CDL Program.
- Provides a safe learning environment for students and maintains equipment in a safe, operational order, ensuring appropriate documentation is filed for all necessary equipment repairs and purchases.
- Reports the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and / or staff.

The Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC), an adult education enterprise, of the State University of New York, University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD), with an annual enrollment of 1,940 students, is seeking applications for a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program.

- Must hold a current Class A CDL.
- Must have an updated DOT (CDL).
- Minimum of 5 years of recent Class A commercial driving experience.
- Certified as an Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) instructor with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a trainer or instructor in the CDL industry and developing a curriculum.
- Knowledge of the New York State CDL road test and requirements.
- One year of experience with online and hybrid teaching and related methodologies.
- Knowledgeable in multiple content areas and theoretical frameworks within stated discipline, as well as issues related to diversity and multiculturalism.
- Experience teaching in adult education.
- Knowledge of Microsoft software and ability to work with computers and education related databases.
- Experience working with a diverse student population.
Physical Demands May be required to occasionally move items that are 11 to 20 pounds. Includes frequent moving, ascending / descending stairs, and positioning self to move carts.

The FMCDS Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is a secure online database that will allow the University at Buffalo to request access from applicants to identify drivers who commit drug and alcohol program violations.
