Director of Finance and Budget Management Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Stanford, California, United States Finance Jul 01, 2024 Post Date 103803 Requisition # Student Affairs seeks a Director of Finance and Budget Management to lead the finance team.

The director manages all budget activities and charts the strategic financial vision for Student Affairs. The director also oversees the finance operations across the division which is comprised of over 39 departments organized under six subdivisions.

This fiscal year, Student Affairs operates on a consolidated budget of approximately $105M.

In this role you will :

Manage the work of other employees, make hiring decisions, provide coaching, training and mentoring, manage performance, determine staffing needs, develop and ensure succession planning within area of responsibility

Establish operational objectives and assignments, plan, direct and monitor all budgets, manage business operation and administration of several functional areas.

Oversee and implement the full budget cycle for VPSA in coordination with Associate Vice Provost (AVP) areas. The budget cycle includes the preparation and submission of the annual request for funding, the budget summary for next fiscal year, the detailed budget record or booked budget and variance analysis statements

Identify and resolve unique problems of substantial significance that affect the overall functional area, beyond the immediate unit.

Design business plans and funding models as needed.

Manage Student Affairs financial activities and structure; develop system and procedure requirements to support the financial reporting for VPSA.

Lead and perform complex, comprehensive analyses and modeling to support strategic decision making

Contribute to designing, developing and delivering complex policies and procedures with both short and long term impact.

Collaborate with other colleagues on unit projects; design and execute an effective system of internal controls for areas of responsibility;

establish operational objectives to support the university's stewardship of resources.

Engage in continuous critical analysis of existing systems and processes; identify need for new systems, and develop and present proposals.

Lead complex, high-visibility process redesign and innovation projects; develop, implement, and participate in major initiatives.

Represent Student Affairs within the functional units and to external constituencies, including serving as a member of the University Business Expense Advisory Group and the University Financial Management Forum;

participate in various focus / testing groups.

To be successful in this role, you will bring :

A master’s degree and six years relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Supervisory experience preferred.

User knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Advanced knowledge of Oracle or other business financial systems

Advanced understanding of financial principles.

Advanced oral and written communication skills

Ability to clearly and effectively present information to internal and external audiences, client groups and all levels of management.

Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.

Strong leadership and management skills with previous experience managing people, delegating workload and providing direction / corrections as necessary.

Knowledge of property management requirements related to Stanford or non-Stanford title of equipment and fabrications.

Demonstrated competency in project management of a high volume of work, some of which is cyclical.

Knowledge of procurement needs, including sole-sourcing, cost analyses, vendor requirements, and small business reporting.

Demonstrated success in performing meticulous, high quality and compliant work.

Ability to interpret complex research and fiscal policies, assimilate information from a wide range of resources and act like a mentor and resource to others.

Working Conditions :

This position is hybrid and remote-eligible.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures . The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $143,000 to $170,000 per annum for remote positions.

The expected pay range for this position is $148,000 to $186,000 per annum for hybrid positions.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
