The assignment location(s) are currently undetermined and could be anywhere in the state of Utah. During the interview process, the assignment location will be discussed with applicants.
The possible current open districts include Utah County, Duchesne County, Carbon County, Grand County, San Juan County, Beaver County, Wasatch County, and Sevier County.
Please note that these open districts are subject to change without notice and may be different once job offers are made.

Principal Duties
As a Natural Resource Officer, you will :
- Patrol assigned Natural Resource Officer District and assigned crew area enforcing state and federal wildlife conservation laws and regulations
- Enforce Utah outdoor recreation laws and regulations
- Conduct investigations, interviews, and interrogations on wildlife-related violations
- Compile reports and other paperwork / documentation associated with citations, investigations, and other job-related responsibilities
- Assist with law enforcement outreach efforts : hunter education, school programs, media releases, etc.
- Assist with other wildlife-related tasks : wildlife surveys, relocation, nuisance and damage concerns, etc.
- Build positive working relationships with other law enforcement agencies throughout the state

The ideal candidate will have :
- Be motivated, self-riven, calm in stressful situations, and capable of working alone in harsh conditions with limited to no direct supervision
- Must be articulate and capable of communicating well, both in person and in written form
- Capable of thinking through complex situations
- Willing to regularly work weekends and holidays
- Takes direction well and is eager to learn new skills
- Although not required for application, preference may be given to candidates who have : a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a preferred field of study orfive (5) years of full-time law enforcement employment as a Conservation Officer / Game Warden or Park Ranger orat least five (5) years of full-time law enforcement employment as a Police Officer.

Retirement- Utah Retirement Systems (URS) :
- Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems before 7 / 1 / 2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
- Employees hired on or after 7 / 1 / 2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II % of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan.
Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off :
- Annual and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
- Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.

Qualifications
Knowledge, skills, and abilities :
- History (or knowledge of) hunting, fishing, and / or trapping activities
- History (or knowledge of) ATV, UTV, OHV, Dirt Motorcycle, Boat, PWC, and / or Snowmobile operation and use activities
- Capable of interacting in a positive, professional manner with resource users
- Ability to deescalate otherwise tense situations
- Enforce Utah outdoor recreation laws and regulations
- Conduct investigations, interviews, and interrogations on wildlife-related violations

Working conditions :
Working conditions and physical requirements may include but are not limited to working in extreme weather conditions, working at heights, being subject to verbal and physical attacks, working various hours of the day and / or night, and exposure to situations requiring physical exertion (, lifting moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.
running, etc.), willingness / ability to use various weapon systems, etc., being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
Physical requirements :
Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.
in a recurring manner and / or for long periods of time.
Other requirements :
This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing of employees after hire. A conditional offer of employment may be made pending drug test results.
All new employees must be willing to be fingerprinted and undergo a criminal background check as well as a driver's license check.

There are certain waiting periods to be able to attend the police academy. You should review these terms at ; 2 years for certain crimes and marijuana use.
If you fall within these categories you cannot be considered for employment as an officer.
- Must meet POST requirements : 21 years of age, , pass physical fitness requirements (push-ups, 1-minute plank test, vertical jump, run and swim.)
- Officers must live within 50 miles of the "focal point" designated for the district where the officer is assigned; relocating if necessary.
- Working weekends and holidays is required.
- Officers will be required to be on-call and respond to calls in emergency situations.
- Required to respond to time-sensitive requests for service at any hour of day / night
- Utah driver's license.
- Travel is required.
Preference :
Previous law enforcement employment / experience and / or a Bachelor's degree are not required for application or hire of this position.
However, applicants with at least five (5) years of Police Officer law enforcement employment / experience and / or a bachelor's degree may be given preference over applicants who do not have either.
Also, bachelor's degrees in natural resource / wildlife management, criminal justice, or recreation management-related fields may be given further preference.
Other attributes possessed by applicants may also be given preference during the hiring process : , natural resources / wildlife-based employment or work, post-high school education, etc.
This job requires certification as a Law Enforcement Officer through Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in Utah within the probationary period and maintaining certification thereafter.
The agency will put you through the academy to obtain the necessary certifications. POST has strict requirements about past criminal activity.
