We are currently seeking a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic Emergency and Critical Care team.
The ideal candidate will have a broad skill set, a strong work ethic, and a passion for emergency medicine. This role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our patients in their time of need.
In this role, you will assist with a wide variety of emergency veterinary procedures , including diagnostics, treatment, and patient care under the supervision of our skilled team of veterinarians , veterinary technicians , and specialty doctors .
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Care Support : Assist in the care of emergency patients, ensuring timely triage and efficient management of emergency cases.
You will play a key role in providing immediate, high-quality care to pets in critical conditions.
Client Communication & Education : Provide excellent customer service by clearly communicating with pet owners about their pets’ condition, treatment plan, and next steps.
Help educate clients about preventative care and the importance of follow-up visits.
- Diagnostics : Perform diagnostic tests, including radiographs (X-rays) , urinalysis , bloodwork , fecals , and cytology , ensuring accurate results are provided in a timely manner for the attending veterinarian’s review.
- Medication Administration : Administer medications through various routes, including IV (intravenous) , SQ (subcutaneous) , IM (intramuscular) , and PO (oral) , following proper protocols.
- Intravenous Catheter Placement : Place IV catheters and provide ongoing catheter care, including monitoring for potential complications.
- Sedated Procedures : Assist veterinarians and technicians with sedated procedures, including laceration repairs , wound care , and fracture stabilization , ensuring a smooth and safe experience for patients.
- Hospitalized Patient Care : Assist with the monitoring and care of hospitalized patients, including patient assessment , vital sign monitoring , and supporting patient comfort during recovery.
- Patient Care Logistics : Handle patient care logistics such as discharging patients , dispensing medications , and ensuring all required medical records are updated in the hospital’s electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Equipment & Facility Maintenance : Help maintain a clean, well-stocked, and organized treatment area, including cleaning and restocking supplies , ensuring our facility meets the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Team Collaboration : Work collaboratively with a team of emergency veterinarians , veterinary technicians , nurses , and support staff to deliver seamless care.
Share knowledge, offer support, and ensure efficient teamwork in the busy, high-pressure ER setting.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a veterinary practice, emergency care, or specialty hospital setting (prior emergency or critical care experience is highly preferred).
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Veterinary Assistant is a plus but not required.
- Proficiency in clinical diagnostics , including the ability to perform radiology , bloodwork , urinalysis , and other diagnostic tests.
- Solid knowledge and hands-on experience in emergency medicine , critical care , and veterinary procedures .
- Experience in intravenous catheter placement , medication administration, and assisting in surgical procedures .
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with critical care cases .
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills ; ability to educate and build relationships with clients.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and excellent teamwork skills in a high-stress, emergency care environment.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of our 24-hour emergency service.
