Job Description

At Olsson, we help our clients to navigate complex regulatory landscapes with ease. We ensure proactive compliance with key environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, and NEPA.

Our approach and use of the latest and best methods help clients achieve their project goals while protecting our natural resources.

As an Associate Scientist, you may manage small and / or medium-sized projects, work with state and federal regulators to permit Olsson projects, coordinate with clients, and collaborate with team members.

You may also mentor and train others on complex work and travel to job sites for observation and field work. Work responsibilities will be consistent with experience and expertise and will grow throughout your career at Olsson.

Your key responsibilities include :

Clean Water Act Section 404 Permitting : Conducting wetland and stream delineations and stream evaluations, writing jurisdictional determination reports and permits (nationwide and individual), staying up to date on regulations, maintaining equipment, and staying up to date on changing regulations.

Field Work : Performing on-site evaluations and identify hydric soils, hydrology, and hydrophytic plants, using tools such as Trimble / GPS units, cameras, soil probes, and Munsell charts, classifying classify soil texture and color as well as making hydric determinations.

Project Management : Coordinating with clients and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, evaluation of project impacts, organizing project schedules and staff, upkeeping templates, developing scopes and fees, determining profit and loss, adhering to Olsson’s QA / QC program.

Comprehensive And Current Knowledge Of : Threatened and endangered species desktop and field surveys including but not limited to bats or other federally listed species, NEPA, plant identification, hydrologic indicators, and scientific methodologies.
