Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI), a leading power engineering consultant firm, is seeking a motivated individual to join our Tucson, AZ office as a drafter.

The successful candidate will be for drafting support to design teams involved with the conceptual, preliminary, and final design of substation and transmission line projects, 34.5 kV through 500 kV.

Under direct supervision reporting to a project manager or engineer, the successful candidate will utilize computer-aided drafting and other compatible software tools to support engineering and design of electrical infrastructure projects, collaborating and working closely with experienced project engineers and / or project managers.

Work includes developing designs / drawings for general arrangements, structures, facilities, site plans, facility layouts, electrical schematics, wiring and connection requirements.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Performing designer / drafting work manually or by use of a computer requiring knowledge and skills in drafting methods, procedures and techniques.
  • Using a recognized system of symbols, legends, shadings, lines and layering in accordance with ECI Drafting Standards.
  • Preparing as-built drawings from red-line copies.
  • Preparing error-free revisions of preexisting CAD files.
  • Performing a variety of assignments which may include drawing reproduction, handling material supplies and other similar work.

Minimum Requirements : College degree in an acceptable curriculum or two-year technical certificate in computer-aided drafting / design, or a minimum of two years concentrated on the job experience in computer-aided drafting / design field.

Substation Design Suite and Inventor skills a plus. Substation design experience is not required to be qualified for a drafting position as ECI would provide the necessary training.

The successful applicant must have proven effective verbal and written communication skills, proven excellent level of interpersonal skills, and ability to work individually and on a team.

Must be detail oriented and possess a high level of organizational skills. Must possess a proven ability to work with confidential information and proven ability to exercise independent judgment.

The successful applicant may be subject to client mandated drug and background checking. Occasional travel / driving will be required.
