CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICE

Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimatorsand safety experts.

As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.

DESCRIPTION

As a part of our Construction Services Team, the Construction Manager will supervise the planning, coordination and implementation of construction projects relating to current and future contracts with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and other modal agencies within the DC / NOVA region.

Current contracts includes roadway, pedestrian, and bike access improvements for a public park in Southeast Washington, DC.

Future projects may include, but not limited to : highway / transitway / interchange / streetscape projects, bridge construction / repair / maintenance, and rail / transit projects.

Construction Managers coordinate with engineers, clients, contractors, and field staff as necessary to ensure projects are completed in accordance with contract documents, on-time, and within project budgets while ensuring safety measures are appropriately taken.

Field and office duties require the ability to prepare clear, concise, and complete reports including : correspondence, meeting notes, individual daily reports, summary of quantities, change orders, supplemental agreements, and project closeout documents.

The Construction Manager will provide oversight of construction change order administration, inspector performance, and resolution of construction issues.

This job will be located in Washington, DC

Other responsibilities include :

  • Report to work at the project field office to which he / she has been assigned.
  • Monitor all aspects of a construction project including, but not limited to, progress, contract conformance, public outreach efforts, and contractor CBE performance.
  • Perform document control and ensure compliance with DDOT requirements.
  • Perform all Resident Engineer duties including, but not limited to, managing contractor payments, monitoring discrepancies / deficiencies, managing change orders, and managing claims.
  • Supervise construction inspection and office engineer staff and ensure they’re properly trained and certified in the job requirements and use of all equipment.
  • Interact with and manage subconsultant firms.
  • Make sure projects adhere to all government and industry standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare and implement construction management QA / QC Plans.
  • May have to work non-standard hours, including some nights and weekends on occasion.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Four-year degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering degree.
  • 5+ years of construction management and inspection experience as a Resident Engineer.
  • Possession of a professional engineer (PE) license in DC is required.
  • Prior experience with roadway, pedestrian, and bike access improvements or other public park rehabilitation projects is preferred
  • Familiarity with DDOT's processes and procedures a plus.
  • Familiarity with Federal and State Specifications for construction.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to plan, organize, assign, lead, motivate and evaluate the work of others.
  • Construction observation experience with industry standards.
  • Strong people management skills are required.
  • Established relationships with state agencies a plus.
  • Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments.
  • Ability to prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required for client interaction.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $107,817 to $165,475. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.

Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
