Job Summary :
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Physician Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team.
The ideal candidate will assist in providing comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation care, PM&R consultations, and outpatient care to patients with a variety of acute and chronic disabling conditions including stroke, acute brain injury, orthopedic spine, multiple trauma, amputation, transplant, critical illness myopathy and generalized debility.
This role is pivotal in ensuring patients receive timely rehabilitation consultations, aiding their transition to our acute inpatient rehabilitation unit.
In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated team of Physiatrists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Rehabilitation Nurses, and Social Workers.
This role requires a compassionate professional committed to improving patients’ quality of life through personalized treatment plans and collaborative healthcare.
Responsibilities :
- Performs PM&R inpatient consultations when indicated.
- Facilitates communication between the acute care services and the PM&R service by providing patient consultations which includes participating in the interdisciplinary rounds of referring services.
- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments to determine functional status and rehabilitation needs. This includes a physical examination, assessing health status, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing medications, and treating illnesses including administering injections and suturing wounds.
- Collaborates with PM&R physicians to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
- Provides inpatient care to patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation.
- Documents the inpatient care provided in the electronic medical record as required by CMS for patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation.
- Attends family conferences to provide education to patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and expected outcomes.
- Delivers outpatient services, including follow-up care and monitoring of patient progress.
- Ensures compliance with legal, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the medical staff.
Qualifications / Requirements :
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current New York State Physician Assistant license, current BLS and ACLS Certification.
- Experience in hospital-based care, rehabilitation medicine, neurology, orthopedics or other related fields preferred.
- Strong clinical skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient-centered care.
Experience :
One year of experience as a Physician Assistant preferred.
