Job Title : Baking Assistant & Prep Cook (Part-Time)
Kneads and Wants, a woman-owned and LGBT-owned bakery in downtown Skokie, is seeking a reliable and motivated Baking Assistant and Prep Cook to support our kitchen operations.
This position involves assisting with our Grab and Go case, scaling and mixing doughs and batters, updating inventory lists, and helping with catering and special orders.
We are looking for someone who values quality, attention to detail, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare salads, parfaits, chicken salad, and other Grab and Go items, ensuring all ingredients are properly washed, chopped, and portioned to specifications.
- Assist in the batch preparation of scones, cookies, bars, and other regular menu items.
- Update and maintain inventory lists to ensure accurate tracking of ingredients and supplies.
- Receive and properly store food orders, ensuring adherence to FIFO (First In, First Out) standards for freshness and quality control.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to food safety standards and guidelines.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate food preparation for all menu and catering items.
- Support additional kitchen tasks as needed, including packaging and labeling products for sale.
Qualifications :
- Prior experience in a kitchen or food preparation environment is required.
- Familiarity with basic culinary tools, including knives, mixers, and kitchen scales.
- Knowledge of food handling and safety procedures, with Sani-Serv certification required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting and transition smoothly between tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail and cleanliness.

- Position Type : Part-time (18 24 hours per week)
- Compensation : $18.00 $25.00 per hour, based on experience
- Shift : Morning shifts available
- Location : On-site at our bakery in Skokie, IL
