Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it.

Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades.

We have emerged as the go-to organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space.

Currently we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Job Description

Our Vector Core is a state-of-the-art facility which provides vector-related materials and services in support of basic and translational research worldwide.

The Vector core is on the hunt for an Associate Director, Upstream Process Development to manage the upstream manufacturing of clinical vectors for internal clinical studies.

As the Associate Director, Process Development, you oversee and participate in upstream manufacturing, process optimization, and process development efforts for clinical grade Adeno-Associated Viral Vectors (AAV).

You will manage and lead the activities of a small team of upstream technologists, manage tech transfer activities with sponsors and CMO's, and interface with external sponsors.

Qualifications :

  • Masters Degree in Biology, Virology, Immunology, or related field with 3-5 year relevant academic (e.g. post-doctoral) or industrial experience required (or combination)
  • PhD strongly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of upstream manufacturing and process development of biologics required
  • Mammalian cell culture experience required
  • Experience working in a GMP environment strongly preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, supervise staff and work collaboratively to achieve goals required
  • Excellent oral / written communication skills required
