Entry-Level QA Tester (Networking and Linux Focus)

Position Overview :

Apex Systems, a World-Class Technology Solutions Provider, is currently seeking an enthusiastic Entry-Level QA Tester with a strong foundation in networking fundamentals and Linux.

This role focuses on Wi-Fi testing, emphasizing both end-user experience and internal customer scenarios. The goal is to ensure a seamless and efficient experience with our Wi-Fi products and services for both customers and internal users.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Evaluate the performance of gaming consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch), handheld devices (Nintendo Switch Lite, Steam Deck), VR systems (Oculus Quest 2, PlayStation VR), and gaming PCs after firmware upgrades.
  • Assess the functionality and performance of routers, switches, modems, servers, NAS devices, and firewalls from an end-user perspective.
  • Run independent scenarios to understand the experience from a customer perspective.
  • Simulate a scenario where a customer is experiencing slow internet speeds. Test various troubleshooting steps that a customer might take, such as restarting the router, checking for firmware updates, and running a speed test.
  • Create a scenario where a customer is setting up a new Wi-Fi network. Go through the entire setup process, including connecting devices, setting up security protocols, and ensuring all devices can connect seamlessly.
  • Test the experience of a customer trying to connect a smart home device (e.g., a smart thermostat or security camera) to the Wi-Fi network.

Identify any potential issues and document the steps needed to resolve them.

  • Use web UIs and various portals to simulate and test different user interactions.
  • Access the router’s web interface to change settings such as SSID, password, and parental controls. Verify that changes are applied correctly, and that the user interface is intuitive and responsive.
  • Use a customer support portal to simulate common interactions, such as submitting a support ticket, chatting with a support agent, and accessing troubleshooting guides.

Ensure that the portal is user-friendly and that all features work as expected.

Test the functionality of a mobile app used to manage the Wi-Fi network. Perform tasks such as monitoring connected devices, setting up guest networks, and checking network performance.

Verify that the app provides accurate information and is easy to navigate.

Requirements :

  • Manual Testing experience : software applications, hardware devices, or network systems, functional testing, regression testing, or user acceptance testing.
  • Fundamental Knowledge of Linux.
  • You should be comfortable with basic Linux commands and operations, such as navigating the file system, managing files and directories, and using command-line tools.
  • Understanding of Networking Fundamentals.
  • Core Understanding of IPV4 and IPV6
  • You need to know the basics of how these protocols work, including the structure of IP addresses, the differences between IPV4 and IPV6, and the concept of subnetting.
  • Basic Understanding of How DHCP Works
  • Troubleshooting Experience.
  • Problem-Solving Skills
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Experience using log files, network analyzers, or diagnostic commands.
  • Positive attitude and a can-do mindset.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and technologies.
  • Natural curiosity about how things work and a desire to understand underlying principles.

  • Genuine interest in QA as a long-term career path.

  • Basic knowledge of automation tools and scripting languages.

Preferred Skills :

  • Understanding of Wi-Fi standards, frequency bands, and common issues related to Wi-Fi performance.
  • Practical experience with setting up and troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks.
  • Experience with Splunk for Log Analysis.
  • Ability to use Splunk to search, monitor, and analyze log data.
  • Skill in interpreting log data to diagnose problems and improve performance.
