The Indiana Repertory Theatre, the state's largest local theatre company, is housed in a historic 1927 building in downtown Indianapolis, complete with two stages, rehearsal spaces, production shops, and offices.
The Building Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the IRT's building, keeping the public spaces in excellent condition, and effectively caring for all spaces in the building.
This position manages a staff of four employees, and is responsible for scheduling, training, and developing departmental standards and goals.
Additionally, this position manages external contractors, purchasing, routine maintenance, inspections and internal repairs.
All work will be conducted to the highest degree possible within budget guidelines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the building services staff : hiring, setting departmental goals and cleaning schedules, setting weekly work schedules, providing training and coaching, evaluating productivity, ensuring safety protocols are maintained
- Perform required repairs / maintenance in the building within their skill level
- Work with the Managing Director to arrange for contractors to be hired on all larger projects
- Be available as needed to solve building problems, particularly during multi-show weekends
- Accompany all inspectors, including fire marshals, and immediately address any concerns raised
- Change all lamps as needed, and keep an inventory of lighting and other supplies
- Perform larger maintenance projects during the dark weeks and summer months including but not limited to drywall repair, painting, floor / carpet repairs and cleaning, etc.
- Miscellaneous duties include hanging signage, efficiently responding to issues arising from performances, and setting up and tearing down both internal and external events
- On-going monitoring of the building for any problems / security issues
- Communicate with all departments of the building regarding the status of projects, timing, etc.
- Manage the departmental budget, handle all ordering of supplies and ongoing contracts.
- Be prepared to assist during occasional building emergencies (leaks, floods, etc.)
- Other duties as determined by the Managing Director
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE
- Comprehensive building management experience preferred
- Experience with employee management and hiring
- Ability to perform some repairs
