Our client is a rapidly growing regional bank in Southern California, specializing in middle market lending. With an ability to lend to high-risk industries, including cannabis, this bank is dedicated to providing tailored financial solutions to meet the unique needs of their clients.

As they expand their footprint, they are seeking a dynamic Business Development Officer to join their team and drive growth in this innovative sector.

Position Overview :

The Business Development Officer will be responsible for identifying and cultivating new business opportunities within the middle market and C&I space across Southern California.

This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong network, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a keen understanding of the lending landscape.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and execute a business development strategy to identify and secure new lending opportunities in high-risk industries, with a focus on cannabis.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including business owners, industry leaders, and referral partners.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and opportunities in the middle market lending sector.
  • Collaborate with credit and underwriting teams to structure deals that meet both client needs and risk management standards.
  • Represent the bank at industry events, networking functions, and community engagements to enhance brand visibility.
  • Provide market insights and competitive analysis to inform product development and strategic initiatives.
  • Achieve individual and team sales targets while contributing to the overall growth of the bank's lending portfolio.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development or lending, with a strong emphasis on middle market or commercial lending.
  • Proven track record of success in generating new business and meeting sales targets, particularly in high-risk industries.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape surrounding cannabis and other high-risk sectors.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Established network within the Southern California business community.
