The Director is the manager of all matters related to education and staffing of the school, including, but not limited to the following :

General Responsibilities :
- Contacting state and local regulatory agencies for licensing and accreditation issues.
- Conforming to health, safety, and licensing regulations.
- Handling all administrative problems, including keeping accurate records.
- Evaluating his / her own work as Director.
- Planning and implementing a program for professional growth.
- Preparing periodic reports for the owner on the state of the school.
- Keeping abreast of research and new developments in early childhood education.
- Playing an active role in professional organizations.
- Maintaining a professional library.
- Planning the yearly calendar of school holidays.
- Planning and scheduling administrative responsibilities.
- Supervising the management of classroom schedules.
- Scheduling the use of shared classroom space and equipment.
- Scheduling the responsibilities of the teaching staff.
Fiscal Responsibilities :
- Operating the school within the approved budget.
- Purchasing equipment and supplies.
- Arranging for repairs and maintenance.
- Preparing monthly reports on the budget status.
- Collecting enrollment fees and tuition.
- Handling petty cash.
Space and Equipment :
- Planning for and equipping outdoor areas.
- Planning for and equipping indoor areas.
- Keeping inventory records.
- Arranging for custodial care, maintenance, and repairs.
- Managing supplies.
- Replacing equipment and replenishing supplies as needed.
Staff :
- Preparing job descriptions.
- Recruiting applicants to fill staff vacancies.
- Selecting staff members (subject to the owner’s approval).
- Recommending staff members for permanent status or separation after a trial period.
- Developing and maintaining a substitute help list.
- Conducting regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Planning and implementing an in-service training program for the staff.
- Assisting staff in preparing plans and ensuring timely submissions.
- Assisting staff in developing a workable plan for using indoor and outdoor space.
- Planning and implementing procedures for accurate classroom records.
- Preparing and maintaining an employee handbook.
- Preparing Personnel Action forms and providing guidance to staff.
- Preparing and posting weekly staff schedules and adjustments.
- Preparing weekly payroll and FTE data for the owner.
- Preparing payroll sheets for the owner to review.
Enrollment :
- Enrolling children to achieve an ethnic and socio-economic balance.
- Providing excellent phone etiquette to ensure high conversion rates.
- Interviewing parents of prospective students and following up.
- Conducting informative tours to promote enrollment.
- Planning for the gradual orientation of newly enrolled students.
- Familiarizing parents with school policies.
- Being alert to enrollment needs.
- Maintaining an active advertising and public relations program.
- Maintaining the class list book.
Parent Relationships :
- Maintaining a system of parent-school communication.
- Updating the school website and communication boards.
- Planning for the orientation of parents to school policies.
- Planning and administering a parent education program.
- Communicating with parents in various ways.
- Writing and distributing the monthly school newsletter.
- Working with the community for smooth transitions.
- Maintaining a parents’ library.
- Updating the parent information board.
- Maintaining a slideshow of school events.
Health :
- Planning and implementing a health program for the school.
- Keeping health history records and reports.
- Contacting agencies for children with special needs.
- Maintaining a referral system for children with special needs.
Safety :
- Planning and implementing a safety program.
- Keeping informed of legal responsibilities and liabilities.
- Implementing playground safety programs.
- Conducting monthly fire drills and quarterly tornado drills.
- Preparing activities to teach traffic safety.
Children’s Programs :
- Planning and organizing school curriculum.
- Planning for and purchasing school supplies.
- Organizing management procedures for children’s programs.
- Planning routines for children.
- Planning and implementing field trips.
- Planning educational programs.
- Evaluating students' progress and needs.
- Arranging a sound nutritional snack program.
- Arranging for rest and relaxation.
- Ensuring lesson plans incorporate children’s program planning.
Community Relationship :
- Welcoming visitors and ensuring positive experiences.
- Planning a student teaching program with local institutions.
- Being available for public events related to early childhood.
- Participating in professional conferences and events.
- Arranging community service events.
Food Management :
- Planning and implementing a food snack program.
- Including nutritional information in newsletters.
- Keeping the food program within budget limits.
- Providing an attractive setting for food serving.
- Establishing a program to prevent food poisoning.
- Controlling food supplies to prevent waste.
- Supervising kitchen staff.
- Shopping for food supplies.
