Student Nurse Tech

Position Summary :

The Student Nurse Tech provides direct patient care under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Director, Nurse Manager, or Patient Care Supervisor and the supervision of the Registered Nurse, utilizing their skill and expertise to complement other health care providers.

Will be dedicated to a care cluster of nursing units and will be a resource to perform specific delegated nursing skills.

Education / Experience :

Currently enrolled in an ADN, BSN, BAN, or post-baccalaureate nursing program. Must have successfully completed the full junior year of the nursing program.

Must not hold a current nursing license. Note : Persons in this role may only continue through one semester past graduation date and completed a student nurse internship (winter or summer) or have accrued hours working as a nursing assistant within the last year.

Special Knowledge / Skills / Certifications / Licenses :

Current BLS provider status

This is an exciting role for nursing students as a Student Nurse Technician! In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain experience with the following benefits :

2. Work Schedule : Day / Evening rotating shifts. You will work two 8 hour shifts per 2-week pay period. These shifts can be weekday or weekend.

Care Clusters Include :

Emergency Center

The Emergency Center offers a wide variety of patient populations which is great for the experience of a Student Nurse Tech.

The Emergency Center is a 42-bed level III trauma center that serves all patient populations 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, days a year.

The Emergency Center includes a triage area used to determine the severity of a patient's medical condition; state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment;

leading-edge medications and techniques to stop heart attacks and strokes before they cause permanent damage; radio communication systems linking Methodist Hospital's Emergency Center to helicopter and ambulance services across Minnesota.

The top two presenting chief complaints are abdominal pain and chest pain. Services are provided by board certified Emergency Physicians and specially trained nursing staff and technicians.

Observation, Orthopedic Surgery, Neuroscience, Med-Tele

These areas offer a wide variety of patient populations which is great for the experience of an SNT. Many of the units are fast-paced and offer their own set of skill mix.

The OBS and Ortho units are where we see a lot of our post-surgical patients. You see many different general surgeries (Appendectomies, Cholecystectomies, TURP) and Orthopedic surgeries (Hip and Knee replacements, fractures, and vascular).

The Neuro unit serves our stroke, lumbar surgery, seizure, video EEG and other Neurological disorder patients. Between all the units we see a good mix of Med-Surg / Tele patients which will sharpen your all-around Nursing skills.

4W : General Surgery and Pediatrics

28 bed unit. Emphasis on bariatric, colorectal, general and OBGYN surgicals.

4E / 8W : General Medicine with Telemetry & Behavioral Health

General medicine with telemetry & behavioral health. Two units consisting of 60 beds total. Pneumonia, GI bleeds, cellulitis, diabetes, etc.

5E / W : Oncology / Hospice / Urology with Telemetry

Oncology / hospice / urology with telemetry. Two units consisting of 52 beds. Newly diagnosed cancer patients receiving surgical interventions and or chemotherapy / radiation.

Palliative care and hospice. Gyn onc, cardiothoracic and uro / gyn surgicals, and medical telemetry.

Family Birth Center

Candidate must have strong desire to join a care team that is highly skilled and committed to providing a safe, nurturing and calm environment for birthing people, infants, and their families.

Candidate will possess excellent critical-thinking, multi-tasking and prioritization skills. The Family Birth Center is open 24 hours a day, days a year.

It offers a complete range of perinatal services. The Family Birth Center includes a Triage, Labor / Delivery, Postpartum, Special Care Nursery and Surgical Suite used to care for birthing people and their families during their childbirth journey.
