Develop and implement an integrated content plan with classroom staff and a training and technical assistance plan for Special Services.

Provide input regarding the development of the Early Childhood budget regarding disabilities for necessary accommodations within the learning environment

Coordinate with the multi-disciplinary evaluation team and the public school system to develop an IEP for each child with a diagnosed disability.

The team should include LEA or Early Intervention personnel if applicable, ECP teachers, home visitors, content area staff, and parent / guardians for each child with a diagnosed disability

Complete developmental assessments on children with suspected delays to present composite scores indicating a potential disability to partners.

Include other related pertinent information based on classroom observations, medical history, behavioral health, and teacher input to represent family holistically

Conduct or coordinate individualized skill enhancement training for parents and staff, training should be pertinent to the needs of children with disabilities.

Provide customized practices to classroom staff on intentional teaching activities to promote the integration of appropriate inclusion methods into routines

  • Manage and maintain positive ongoing relationships with LEA and Part C Agency service providers. Keep both family and ECP staff informed of the type and frequency of services provided to already identified children while collaboratively monitoring the progress of children who are potentially eligible for services
  • Serve as primary liaison for disability services through advocacy efforts on behalf of the family. Accompany families to all IFSP and IEP meetings including transition meetings between ECP programs including home-based services to center settings and into the public school system
  • Determine accommodations or modifications in the classroom to meet the individual developmental needs of the children that include but are not limited to obtaining specialized equipment, sensory aids, technological assistance devices, and other supports as needed
  • Inform parents and teaching staff on the progress of both children with disabilities as well as those with suspected delays.

Educate parents, as needed, to guide them in understanding their child's current services and resources available throughout the referral process

Ensure compliance with legal documentation of necessary disability paperwork. Conduct reviews of files to ensure necessary components are present.

Maintain organized and up-to-date files at the office and electronically Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education / Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in either Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related degree from an accredited university / college is required
  • Three years of prerequisite-related work experience. Experience working with children with special needs and experience working with clients in disabilities areas.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Knowledge and expertise required concerning resources and referrals, Head Start Performance Standards, IDEA, ADA, LEA, IFSPs, IEPs, multi-disciplinary team participation, and development of ECP-managed IEPs for children with health or mental health disabilities.
  • Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with the ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc. Intermediate-Advanced MS Office skills
  • Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills, and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis.

Essential Physical & Mental Requirements

Headquarters position with frequent local travel (exposure to normal traffic hazards). Driving is required frequently. Work is a normal office environment.

Employee is subject to standing, stooping, walking, lifting, and carrying objects throughout daily job performance-an intermittent effort involving lifting of amounts up to 50 pounds required.

Work requires moderate attention to detail and deadlines between 15% and 45% of the time.
