1. Provides high quality instruction in field of expertise, ensuring students meet course outcomes.

2. Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.

3. Selects and obtains materials and supplies, such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.

4. Prepares course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.

5. Prepares materials for laboratory activities and course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.

6. Identifies specialized materials for outside reading assignments.

7. Initiates, facilitates, and moderates classroom discussions.

8. Supervises laboratory sessions.

9. Assists students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class.

10. Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

11. Evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and / or papers.

12. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.

13. Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.

14. Advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.

15. Acts as advisor to student organizations, ensuring adherence to college and university policies and procedures.

Clinical Instruction

1. Assesses clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs using a variety of methods.

2. Demonstrates patient care in clinical units.

Research & Scholarship

1. Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.

2. Reviews papers for publication in journals.

Service & Professional Development

1. Participates in campus and community events, such as giving presentations to the public.

2. Actively identifies opportunities and provides services relating to fields of expertise for the benefit of internal and external communities.

Other Assigned Duties

1. Collaborates with staff and colleagues to address teaching and research issues, and to improve students' learning experiences.

2. Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.

3. Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.

4. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Director Duties :

Patient Care / Quality of Care :

1. Provides direct resident supervision in the clinics.

2. Establish and monitor an emergency schedule and coverage during work hours and after work hours as established by the Office of Clinical Affairs.

3. Educates and monitors residents’ presentation of pre estimates to their patients as a form of communication to avoid misunderstandings in the cost of treatment provided in the clinics.

4. Monitors active and inactive patients and work in collaboration with the office of clinical affairs to maintain a manageable number of patients assigned to each resident.

Resident Education :

1. Monitors resident’s clinical requirements and progress as established by the Program Director.

2. Educates and guides residents in communications between their patients, the front desk via secured email and to properly document conversations using Axium.

3. Monitors compliance with requirements set by NSU College of Dental Medicine.

4. Organizes training for faculty and residents in the areas relevant to clinical dentistry as it relates to the necessary skills required by residents.

Administrative / Financial / Operations :

1. Communicates with Office of Clinical Affairs for management of internal and external referral sources.

2. Attends all meetings as established by the Chair and / or Program Director.

3. Works in collaboration with the Program Director to balance the academic, research and clinical hours and adhere to the CODA requirements as established by the Program Director.

4. Monitors the closing out of patient sessions, progress notes and authorization of progress notes by faculty.

5. Arranges clinical schedules for residents and establishes priorities for bay use and monitors efficient and effective clinical sessions to avoid delay in patient care.

Quality Assurance :

1. Assists Program Director in the management of patient complaints in conjunction with the Office of Clinical Affairs.

2. Establishes and enforces clinical policies and protocols. Marginal Job Functions : Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities : Knowledge :

1. Dental Medicine - Comprehensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed in Dental Medicine. This includes symptoms and treatment planning.

2. Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

3. English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

4. Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.

Physical Requirements and Wording Environment :

1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

4. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and / or prolonged periods of sitting and / or standing in performance of job duties.

5. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment / supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.

6. Must be able to work in a clinical setting and use dental related materials and instruments.

7. Travel May be required to travel on a daily and / or overnight basis.

8. May be required to work nights or weekends.

Required Certifications / Licensures : 1. Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from CODA accredited institution.

2. Board certified / eligible by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

3. Eligible for Florida Dental license or Teaching Permit. Required Education : DDS / DMD or foreign equivalent dentistry degree Major (if required) : Required Experience : Professional doctoral-level teaching experience.
