WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Silver Creek Preserve Manager (SCPM) develops, manages and advances preserve-specific management programs and stewardship activities at The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Silver Creek Preserve.

Open to the public, the Silver Creek Preserve is TNC Idaho’s flagship preserve and a popular destination for recreation, leisure, and educational activities near Picabo, Idaho.

The preserve gets approximately 10,000 visitors annually.

The SCPM is the property manager, steward, and primary point of contact for the preserve. In this essential and public-facing role, the SCPM performs and oversees all aspects of Silver Creek Preserve operations and activities, including maintenance, visitor services, and outreach.

It is their responsibility to provide a welcoming, safe, inclusive atmosphere for preserve visitors to experience educational and recreational amenities, while also protecting the property’s natural resources and conservation values.

The SCPM advances the work of TNC by connecting people with nature, and by building connections with visitors, supporters, and the community to promote TNC’s mission locally and globally.

The work environment includes working outdoors in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

The position is full-time (35 hours per week) and may require frequent weekend and evening hours, especially during summer months.

The SCPM is required to live on-site at Silver Creek Preserve in TNC-provided housing. Living on the Preserve is a condition of employment.

Not only will you fulfill conservation objectives in the beautiful state of Idaho, but you’ll contribute to conservation goals through many networks!

The ideal candidate has strong project management skills and experience with land stewardship, resource management or property management.

They are responsible for overseeing the operational needs of Preserve infrastructure and land, including buildings, landscaping, trails, fishing and boating access, and signage.

They identify and address infrastructure issues, completing repairs and maintenance. The SCPM may hire and manage contractors, and they work with staff and partners to identify stewardship needs and implement work plans.

The SCPM is also responsible for protection of conservation values at the Preserve, including weed spraying and manual removal of exotic species, and enforcing policies to protect natural resources and ecosystems.

The SCPM performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on stewardship program priorities.

They plan and coordinate multiple projects at a time, setting deadlines, soliciting volunteer and staff support as needed, and managing implementation, tracking, and reporting.

Good communication skills are critical for this position. The SCPM provides visitor services at the preserve, which requires daily interactions with the public, students, and volunteers.

The SCPM oversees the day-to-day operations of the Silver Creek Conservation and Education Center and supervises the Silver Creek Education Coordinator, ensuring the successful implementation of nature programs, youth conservation classes and field trips at the preserve, and other outreach activities.

The SCPM fosters community support for protection of Silver Creek recruiting and coordinating volunteers, working with community partners, and hiring and supervising interns to assist with stewardship and monitoring.

They serve as the Conservancy’s spokesperson for the Silver Creek area and may make public presentations at appropriate meetings, conferences, and community events.

The SCPM works collaboratively with teammates from the TNC Idaho Chapter to implement conservation and restoration projects at the Preserve, using a variety of strategies to secure public and private support.

They support donor relations and coordinate special events at the preserve to maintain and cultivate key relationships with TNC constituents and supporters.

They work with TNC communications and marketing staff to produce and distribute preserve-related guides, brochures and maps, and support social media engagement.

We’re looking for a passionate, dedicated person to manage Silver Creek Preserve and work within our Chapter. Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring safe, inclusive access to TNC Idaho’s flagship preserve are key in this role.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management, land stewardship, property management, recreation management, or a similar field;

or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience managing staff or volunteers.
  • Relationship-building experience and a willingness to work collaboratively with a variety of partners, i.e., conservationists, non-profits, educators, public resource managers, recreationists, local landowners.
  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Experience with communication via written and spoken (or comparable) means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
  • Training in First Aid, CPR, and Youth Safety, or a willingness to complete certifications after hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, environmental education, stewardship, and natural resource protection.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

The manager is required to live on-site at Silver Creek Preserve in housing provided by TNC.

AUTO SAFETY POLICY

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.

Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned / leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $52,000-$57,000 for annual base salary.

This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.

Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
