Job Summary
The Writing Consultant III, under general supervision, provides advanced consultation and tutoring for graduate students.
Provides one-on-one writing support to graduate students enhancing their writing skills. Manages a website with academic resources for graduate students.
Collects annual statistics for reporting purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides advanced tutoring of students regarding their writing, speaking and audio / video skills.
Consults with specified classes / departments regarding writing or audio / video matters.
Review and provide feedback to graduate students’ work submitted to
Assist graduate students structure and develop their ideas.
Instruct graduate students in strategies to develop their writing skills.
Review graduate student papers and provide constructive and supportive feedback.
Coach graduate students to develop their scholarly voice and self-confidence.
Edit journal articles and theses.
Provide writing feedback and instruction to graduate students in individual appointments and occasionally in small groups.
Guide graduate students who are writing theses through the process of finding a topic, preparing an idea paper, wiring a proposal, and / or finishing a thesis.
Assists thesis and dissertation students with proper formatting and graduate school compliance.
Provides assistance to graduate student writing groups and programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education - Master’s degree or 18 SCH at the graduate level in applicable field.
Experience - Four years of related experience as a writer, editor, teacher of writing or public speaking, or tutor / administrator in a writing, speaking, or learning center, to include experience working with graduate students on writing dissertations and theses and facilitating writing groups.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of :
Word processing applications.
Writing basics.
Ability to :
Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Licensing / Professional Certification None.

This position generally supervises employees.

Salary : $17.54 / hourly
