Advertised Job Summary

The University of South Carolina College of Nursing is seeking an innovative andvisionary leader for the Professional Nursing Practice Department Chair role.

This position requires a dynamic individual committed to fostering excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service within a collaborative and forward-thinking academic environment.

As the Professional Nursing Practice Department Chair, you will shape the future of prelicensure nursing education and support faculty excellence.

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide Strategic Leadership : Guide the department with a visionary and future- oriented approach.
• Support Faculty Excellence : Serve as a role model, promote faculty development and mentoring, monitor performance, and manage appointments and promotions.
• Support Governance : Engage in shared governance to shape the department’s mission and outcomes.
• Oversee Programs : Ensure the effectiveness of prelicensure academic programs, including curricular reviews and assessments.
• Collaborate Across Departments : Work with other department chairs on teaching assignments and workloads.
• Recruit & Retain Talent : Manage faculty recruitment, retention, and evaluation.
• Budget Oversight : Manage the departmental faculty travel budget.
• Implement Strategy : Collaborate on the College’s mission, vision, and strategic plans.

Faculty appointments and salary are competitive and based on the candidate’s level of experience in clinical practice, teaching, and scholarship.

Recruitment for this position is in the Tenure-Track or Professional Track.

Required Education and Experience

• Holds an earned doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNP).
• Eligible for licensure in South Carolina.
• Innovative thought leader in prelicensure nursing education.
• Experience in progressive academic leadership roles (e.g., Council / committee chair, program director, assistant dean, center director).
• Strong history of managing faculty and staff with outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrates excellence in written and oral communication, team building, self-motivation, and a high degree of confidentiality.
• Meets rank for Associate Professor or Professor for either Tenure Track or Professional Track.
