POSITION SUMMARY :

The Head Coach for Mountain Biking reports to the Associate Athletic Director and is responsible for the management of both programs.

Westminster University is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA II) and soon to be USA Cycling for this Non-NCAA sport.

This role supports student success by promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university learning environment and supporting the academic success of student-athletes.

The position is .75 FTE with benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Recruitment and retention of qualified student athletes
• Maintain expected annual roster sizes
• Supervise and hire assistant(s) and manage their work hours and responsibilities
• Manage all budgeting, scheduling, and travel arrangements for both programs
• Organize and supervise all practices and trainings for both programs
• Ability to initiate, organize, and communicate off-season training opportunities
• Event management and training assistance as needed for practices and competitions
• Order and manage all equipment purchased by university
• Compliance with institutional, conference and national governing regulations
• Manage and confirm student-athlete eligibility with both Compliance and Registrars Office’s
• Assist with fundraising and outreach efforts for program
• Student-athlete mentoring and welfare (i.e., academic, and personal)
• Perform all responsibilities with the highest ethical standards consistent with the University’s mission, vision and values which include diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Perform other duties as assigned

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Schedule outside normal business hours. This position requires an occasional irregular work schedule including days, nights, weekends, and travel.

This position is also required to work on campus and be present for student-athletes during university business hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

• Bachelor's degree, Master’s preferred
• A minimum of five years of mountain biking competition, instruction, or coaching experience.
• Demonstrated record of success coaching and recruiting collegiate student athletes preferred
• Ability to work independently
• Effective motivational skills
• Strong leadership, organizational & technological skills
• Excellent interpersonal and public relation communication skills
• Ability to create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with high standards and goals
• Commitment to high academic and professional standards
