The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-partisan research organization, seeks a full-time Research Assistant for its Education and Child Wellbeing program in the Washington, DC office.

Under the supervision of Senior Fellow Rachel Bonnifield, the Research Assistant will perform a range of project research, data analysis, policy analysis, administrative support and organizational duties as part of CGD’s workstream on Understanding and Mitigating the Global Burden of Lead Poisoning .

The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills and experience doing data cleaning, collation, and statistical analysis in Stata and / or other software packages.

Strong analytical, writing, organizational and administrative skills will also be required, and the best candidates should demonstrate interest and research experience on policies and practices relating to international development.

Experience in and an interest in mitigating lead poisoning is a plus, but not a requirement.

Research Assistants are typically recent undergraduates with an interest in gaining research, policy, programmatic operations, and project management experience before going to graduate studies.

Candidates with master's degrees may apply with the understanding they will accept an entry-level role that includes administrative responsibilities.

CGD provides Research Assistants with an opportunity to a promotion to associate after two years in the role.

Responsibilities :

  • Review existing literature for ongoing research initiatives and projects.
  • Help to draft policy papers, briefs, and blog posts.
  • Conduct data analysis using Excel, STATA, or R; clean data sets, prepare tables, and make graphs to present results.
  • Organize and attend meetings / conferences / other events related to research priorities.
  • Provide administrative and programmatic support to include managing logistics for lead research-related activities; assisting with event and meeting organization, travel booking, expense documentation, and other administrative tasks as required.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of senior research staff.

The successful candidate will likely have the following qualifications and skills :

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, development economics, global health, research methods or related fields.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • A solid understanding of social research methods, particularly quantitative methods / econometrics.
  • Professionalism and comfort interfacing with senior stakeholders.
  • Outstanding writing and other communication skills in English.
  • A demonstrable interest in international development, global education policy and / or lead poisoning would be a plus.
  • Solid research and data analysis skills using Excel, Stata, or R.
  • Confidence and comfort working independently, in small groups, or interacting with senior staff.
  • A positive attitude and great sense of humor.

Salary range : $54,340 - $58,000. Pay commensurate with education, skillset, and experience.

The organization is working hybrid with all staff required to be in the office at least two days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
