BENEFITS : All eligible full time employees will receive Paid Annual Leave (PAL) starting at 23 days per year and raising by one day per year following one full calendar year of employment (January through December).

GENERAL SUMMARY : Provide support to the US Navy

PRINCIPAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Prepare work sites for work : identify work location, string welding leads / hose, stage fire extinguishers, tie / tape-up fire retarding blankets, remove burnable debris left by another trade, and identify equipment / services that shall be moved to avoid damage, locate ventilation lines and install metal preheating devices.
- Fire watch : observe hot work operations, be prepared to prevent a fire from occurring and / or sound a general alarm if danger presents.
- Once welding is complete, the worker will monitor components to ensure there is no flare up, then may be tasked to de-stage the area, restoring it to the way it was prior to hot work and clean up the area prior to turning space over to waiting trades.
- Individual fire watch shall stay alert, and not engage in any other activity or work during the hot work operation.
- Prior to starting hot work, the fire watch shall identify closest general quarters fire alarm pull station. Shall stop work and attempt to extinguish any fire that develops from hot work.
If fire cannot be extinguished, the fire watch will shout for help and activate alarm.
Laboring : The contractors workers may be required to perform non-skilled tasks (e.g., act as helping hands, perform tasks which do not require special trade training) to support accomplishment of work performed by other trades to ensure hot work operations execute on schedule.
Position Requirements
REQUIREMENTS :
- Each Contractor employee shall have at least 2 years general experience in a heavy industrial work environment such as ship building, power plant construction, commercial building construction or bridge construction.
- Each Contractor employee shall have at least 3 months of experience fire watching for hot work operations in a heavy industrial work environment and shall be currently qualified to stand fire watch duties.
Fire watch laborers shall have had live-fire training, using both CO2 and Air Pressurized Water, as part of their qualification process.
- Each Contractor employee shall have experience preparing hot work sites, anticipating hazards and covering-up areas / components to contain sparks / slag.
- Each Contractor employee shall understand the requirements in 29 CFR 1915 Subpart P and NFPA Standard 51b and be able to work under the guidance of government welders to ensure safe hot work operations.
- Each Contractor employee shall be trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR 1910.134 (Subpart I).
