About the team
For this Physics and Engineering Teacher position, you'll be working for our high school in north Philadelphia called TECH Freire Charter School (9th-12th Grade) : TECH Freire reimagines the college prep high school by blending state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on learning with the rigor of the time-tested Freire Schools liberal arts program to help each of our students truly thrive.

What you'll do
As a member of Freire's instructional team, you'll work with high-quality, standard aligned curriculum to push critical thinking and high achievement in your classroom.
Makerspace : Both Practical Physics and Engineering classes take place in the Makerspace. TECH Freire's campus includes two fully-equipped makerspaces including bandsaws, shopbots, 3D printers, virtual reality equipment, and much, much more.
Teachers and students have the opportunity to bring physical theories to life.
Responsibilities
Teach 3 sections of Practical Physics and Engineering : For our innovative Practical Physics and Engineering course, 11th and 12th graders engage in hands-on projects that explore key physical concepts through creative artifact creation in the Makerspace.
You'll inspire students to master essential skills in measurement, kinematics, energy, and more, while utilizing cutting-edge makerspace technology and software like TinkerCAD and Adobe Illustrator.
- Create and maintain a classroom culture of critical thinking, learning, respect, and high achievement for all students.
- Leverage content specific curriculum and create learning materials to promote critical thinking and problem solving.
- Establish consistent communication rhythms with families regarding individual student progress and school related information.
- Actively participate in professional development and collaboration with staff to support the needs of our students.

Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or higher
- Valid state teaching certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong content knowledge
- Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done
- At least 2 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations.
Pay and benefits
Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, salaries for certified teachers entering their first year of teaching start at $60,000.

The annual salary range for this role is $50,000 - $85,000. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications.
Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Pennsylvania employees are enrolled in Freire's 403(b) retirement plan which includes a 5% contribution from Freire.
