Overview :
The position involves expert-level engineering and machining applications utilizing a wide range of engineering software and machine tools, including but not limited to SolidWorks, Gibbs CAM, milling centers, turning, grinding, etc.
Responsibilities also encompass collaboration with engineering on tooling, part, and SOR (Statement of Requirements) design, or process development.
Other duties may include, but are not limited to, maintaining machine shop equipment, designing and fabricating tools, fixtures, jigs, and injection molds as needed.
Job Responsibilities :
- Analyze, design, and fabricate complex fixtures and tools for use in manufacturing, production, and quality control.
- Perform complex setups for machining various workpieces for both short and long-run applications, maximizing efficiency and safety.
- Collaborate with ID (Industrial Design), DE (Design Engineering), QE (Quality Engineering), and PE (Process Engineering) at all levels.
- Mentor machine shop staff to facilitate daily activities and enhance internal talent.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials for complex machining operations.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematical and instrumentation knowledge.
- Establish feed and speed settings for cutters during various machining processes.
- Utilize all machine shop equipment, including but not limited to lathes, power saws, machining centers, and grinders.
- Set up, adjust, and operate specialized or advanced machine tools for precision machining operations.
- Measure, examine, or test completed units for defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision measurement instruments.
- Demonstrate high proficiency in CAM programming software to perform complex ergonomic 3-D machining operations meeting engineering specifications.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Diagnose machine malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs by observing and listening to operating machines or equipment.
- Participate in design reviews, recommend best practices for mold design, and advise on design for manufacturability.
- Create prototype injection molds to validate design and feasibility concepts.
- Develop methods, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering, manufacturing, and quality needs.
- Set up and operate specialized metalworking equipment applications such as brazing, heat-treating, welding, bending, or cutting.
- Install repaired parts into equipment or new equipment installations.
- Provide engineering documentation for conceptual or completed work.
- Review and advise both product and design engineering on best practices for mold and machining design applications.
- Install experimental parts or assemblies, such as hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, lubricants, or batteries into machines or mechanisms.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine efficient methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and ensure product dimensional tolerances.
Job Requirements :
- Proficiency in computer skills, including SolidWorks, Gibbs CAM, Microsoft Excel / Access / Outlook, and Visio.
- Strong engineering, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- In-depth understanding of quality specifications.
