Position Highlights : NT6 Observation
- Number of beds on unit : 35
- Patient population : The Observation Unit is a 35-bed unit that provides acute care for various medical issues, including cardiac, general surgery, and behavioral health.
Patients' goal length of stay is 24-48 hours.
- Nurse to Patient ratio : 1 : 5-6
- Department culture and resources : The Observation unit is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a focus on achieving the best outcomes for patients.
We have a robust Partnership Committee and dedicated nurse supervisors.
Frequent nursing skills / equipment used : Foley / IV / NG insertions, Nursing prioritization, IV pumps, Lift equipment, SCDs, Telemetry monitoring, Patient connection
LPN will be paired with an RN or UNL to assist with patient load. LPN tasks include medication administration, wound care, hourly rounding, and patient education.
LPNs will document assessments and care plans after the initial assessment and care plan have been completed by the RN.
- Administers medications, excluding IV Push medications
- Documents assessments on assigned patients
- Charts on care plans
- Communicates with providers to receive orders and coordinate care for patients
- Completes dressing changes, wound care, trach care, NG tube insertion and maintenance, and ostomy care
- Reinforces education and discharge instructions
