Position Summary

The Campaign Manager / Donor Relations Director, a newly created position, will report to the Director of Development and maintain responsibility for both the capital campaign and a portfolio of prospective donors and funder.

This individual will serve as a member of the Development Office leadership team and will help implement plans and policies in a manner that provides the necessary funding to support the all aspects of the fundraising program.

  • In the role of campaign manager, this individual will manage the overall campaign plan and timetable; identify and monitor campaign strategies and performance against benchmarks;
  • assist in the recruitment of all campaign volunteers, oversee their engagement, and support their efforts; organize and coordinate the activities of the key campaign committees (Campaign Steering Committee, Campaign Cabinet, Sub-committees, Officer Corps, staff leadership, , and others) to ensure their successful fundraising efforts;

produce key campaign operative materials; and oversee the development of a campaign communications strategy including the creation of all campaign collateral materials.

As a Donor Relations Director (DRD), this individual will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective donors and funders with the capacity to make gifts of $25,000 or more among potential corporate, foundation, and individual funders.

The DRD will work closely with the all members of the Development Office to provide viable funder prospects and manage personally a portfolio of prospect donors.

The major gift officer will develop and implement strategies that promote long-term sustainable growth and deepen relationships with existing and new donors.

Rate Of Pay

$100,000 - 125,000 (Annual)

Essential Functions

Manage the overall campaign plan and timetable, addressing the following key issues :

  • Appropriate phase activities and goals
  • Committee structure
  • Activity and fundraising benchmarks
  • Publicity / marketing plan
  • Campaign budget
  • Donor recognition plan (including preparation of gift naming opportunities)
  • Gift acceptance and crediting policies
  • Gift tables
  • Volunteer and leader roles and responsibilities
  • Identify and monitor campaign plan strategies to keep campaign activity on schedule and on track.
  • Assist in the identification, recruitment and solicitation of campaign leadership, including : Developing all background information, briefing memos, tailored prospect proposals, and talking points for gift solicitationsBriefing all solicitors prior to solicitation meetingsAssisting at solicitation meetings whenever necessaryConducting debriefing meetings following solicitation callsDiscussing and formulating next steps
  • Drive the organization and implementation of specific plans to engage in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of the key campaign committees (Campaign Steering Committee, Campaign Cabinet and Sub-committees, Officer Corps, staff leadership, and others) to ensure their successful fundraising efforts Assisting in the identification and development of recruitment strategies for key campaign leadership positionsPreparation of all meeting materials (agendas, talking points, next steps, assignments, prospect rating charts, etc.

Leading orientation and training sessions for Officer Corps, staff, campaign leaders, and other appropriate audiencesDesigning campaign leadership handbooks, describing the roles and providing guidelines for the campaign committees and staffDeveloping cultivation and solicitation strategies for key prospective donors - individual, corporate, and foundation

  • Develop and maintain prospect lists and tracking systems, matrices, and pipeline reports (both for overall donors and for specific committee activity), which would include : Identifying new prospective donorsAssigning target request amountsConducting prospect research on all key prospectsDesigning cultivation and solicitation strategiesIdentifying potential solicitorsServing as a clearing house for all prospect informationKeeping all information and reports current and updated.
  • Produce key campaign operative materials, including : Campaign case statementCampaign policy statement, addressing gift counting, gift crediting, and methods of giving.

Major gift prospectuses, including request letters, individual proposals, giving opportunities, and gift documentation.Leadership / major gift solicitation guidelines

  • Implement a campaign communications strategy and plan.

  • Interact on a regular basis with campaign leaders and volunteers regarding prospect assignments, background information and research, pre-solicitation briefings and debriefings, call reports, formulation of next steps, follow-up documentation, and thank-you letters
  • Participate in cultivation and request meetings (as appropriate)
  • Provide regular updates and reports to staff, faculty, and committee leaders tracking campaign statistics, evaluating progress based on established benchmarks, recommending next steps, and adjusting when necessary
  • Prepare all general campaign correspondence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities for DRD Activity

  • Responsible for soliciting gifts of $25,000 and higher.
  • Manage relationships with a portfolio of prospective donors and funders.
  • Work collaboratively with and in support of other members of the Development Office, Officer Corps, staff, and campaign volunteers to cultivate and solicit prospective donors and funders
  • Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations
  • Ensure proper stewardship practices for the timely and accurate recording and acknowledgment of all gifts
  • Maintain ongoing and active networking with internal and external constituencies.
  • Represent the organization in the community as appropriate.

Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.

Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to accurately gauge colors and view detailed graphics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience and a proven record of successful cultivation and solicitation of gifts
  • Prior experience capital campaign experience while working in a Development Office, preferably for a faith-based institution.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of all areas of fundraising, with a particular emphasis on major gift acquisition.
  • Proven track record in planning and achieving short- and long-term goals and creating a plan outlining activity
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, tact, and diplomacy with the ability to develop and maintain cooperative and successful working relationships with volunteers, staff, and all donors;

ability to serve as a team player and leader

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively about engaging donors, and to develop plans of action and follow through
  • Ability to inspire and motivate volunteers and staff.

  • Must be willing and available to work evenings and weekends per event-related scheduling.
  • Experience working with donor management and data management systems preferred.
  • By virtue of its direct contact with, and representation to people who engage in Salvation Army programs, people who demonstrate an understanding of The Salvation Army’s Christian mission are required for this position
  • Must be in good health, capable of meeting the demands of the position.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Proficient in Adobe Create Cloud- Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premier.
  • Proficient in Google analytics and Google Suite, as well as Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Outlook, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Experience with website creation tools such as Wix and WordPress a plus.
  • Must have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • Must have ability to work with, direct, and relate well with co-workers, community members, and guests / clients.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
