Development, Community Relations & Marketing Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position is responsible for promoting the company via a variety of channels in order to build the company brand, support the company culture, and attract employees, clients, donors, and strategic partners.

Essential Duties

  • Key Responsibility Area (35%) : Website & Social Media
  • Implementation and maintenance of all aspects of the interactive website.
  • Development of all website concepts and content, update site copy.
  • Optimize and maximize the vitality of the website by analyzing the analytics and making appropriate adjustments.
  • Research and maintain website blog.
  • Welcome new professional employees, introduce the department, develop their biographies, coordinate photography, and post on the website in a timely manner.
  • Act as liaison with vendor(s) to communicate, problem solve and learn with respect to website enhancement, coding issues, fixes, etc.
  • Promote fundraising and PR events.
  • Key Responsibility Area (30%) : Marketing & Public Relations
  • Develop and deploy branding campaigns.
  • Develop promotional campaigns for various service areas.
  • Design, develop, update, and order flyers, posters, brochures, and other marketing materials as needed.
  • Manage, promote, and further develop Sensory Friendly Restaurant Program.
  • Write ad copy for video and radio ads.
  • Manage, update, and analyze Google AdWords.
  • Plan and arrange video projects.
  • Plan and arrange radio spots.
  • Research PR and community partnership opportunities.
  • Purchase all promotional items and apparel and replenish as needed.
  • Compose new pieces; provide visually appealing layout, proof, and finalize Anova's quarterly e-newsletters.
  • Key Responsibility Area (15%) : Community Outreach
  • Work to support, promote, and assist Executive Management in their roles as the ambassadors for the organization.
  • Research and exploit all press and media exposure opportunities to promote company news, events, and activities as appropriate.
  • Draft, post, and follow up with press releases for all company news and events as appropriate.
  • Calendar, register for, and organize all materials for events such as parades, walks, and symposiums on behalf of Anova.
  • Research and submit potential awards and nominations for local non-profits, schools, community professionals, and others as appropriate.
  • Establish relationships with key community members and organizations.
  • Coordinate and manage the set-up of promotional booths at school and community events.
  • Photograph and promote company and development activities.
  • Maintain photo archives and ensure client photo releases are on file.
  • Act as liaison with copy vendor(s).
  • Encourage parent involvement in Parent Association activities.
  • Key Responsibility Area (15%) : Event Planning
  • Create and manage the timeline, program, and task list for all Anova-hosted events.
  • Negotiate costs and services with vendors; book event space, arrange food and beverage, order all supplies / decorations, coordinate audiovisual equipment & operation.
  • Organize and lead collaboration with the management team on event concept, graphic design / production / printing, and event marketing.
  • Secure volunteers; manage the staff and volunteers working at the event.
  • Manage on-site production and clean up for events as necessary.
  • Solicitation of donors; in-kind donations, and gratitude follow-up.
  • Key Responsibility Area (5%) : Administrative
  • Ensure adherence to Anova's policies and procedures and other governing agency regulations and standards as appropriate at all times.
  • Complete activities relevant to this position as required by the California Department of Education pursuant to maintaining certification as a Non-Public School / Agency.
  • Ensure that all work is accurately recorded and rendered in Central Reach on a daily basis and that your work schedule is evaluated and locked timely according to Anova's policies and procedures.
  • Complete and submit all administrative paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Education required : BA degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum Experience required :
  • Two years recent corporate marketing / PR department experience
  • Two years website and social media experience
  • Two years transferrable professional writing experience
  • Non-profit experience strongly preferred.
  • Skills Required (technical) :
  • Superior writing skills
  • Basic knowledge of marketing principles
  • Basic knowledge of public relations principles
  • Ability to proactively seek out and pursue PR opportunities
  • Proficiency in MS Office & Adobe Design
  • Current working knowledge of web design and HTML
  • Strong creative design / layout & composition skills
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Basic photography skills
  • Adobe Creative suite skills
  • Skill gathering and analyzing site analytics
  • SEO skills preferred.
  • Skills Required (non-technical) :
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • People person : proactive interaction with parents, people, entities, donors, etc.
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Demonstrated success managing detail
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required; willingness to travel as needed
  • Able to organize and track a wide variety of concurrent activities
  • Ability to evaluate / develop processes and suggest improvements to operations.

  • Financial Responsibility and Authority : Responsible for conservation and care of company funds in the course of job. Follows basic budget for department.
  • Supervisory : none
  • Typical Working Conditions : Normal office environment, constant interruptions, noise, onsite at events and meetings.
