Salary :

We are seeking a reliable and responsible self-starter to join our Geotechnical team in Gretna as a Drill Rig Operator. This position requires a valid Virginia Driver's License, and the ideal candidate must be willing to travel regionally, sometimes staying overnight.

We work in urban and remote areas, and sometimes the work locations have difficult access. The ideal candidate will be ready to work hard, have a desire to excel, and enjoy working outdoors, sometimes in remote locations with minimal supervision.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate previous drilling experience, but we will provide training for the right candidate.

Essential Functions :

• Assist drill / clearing teams with performing drilling and clearing services by operating equipment to clear access to boring locations and to bore exploratory vertical holes into the earth to evaluate soil types and strength characteristics.
• Responsible for operating the Rig in a safe manner.
• Prepares detailed and legible field notes.
• Ensures that all team members wear necessary safety equipment at all times.
• Communicates with Director and / or Project Manager regularly regarding all projects issues and concerns.
• Responsible for the inventory of equipment and supplies each day.
• Lays out boring locations with compass and measuring tape.
• Assumes responsibility for the preservation and security of all field samples.
• May operate miscellaneous drilling equipment including rods, augers, etc.

Work Environment and Physical Demands :

This job operates in an outdoor environment, as well as sometimes within an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, plotters.

Additionally, this role will require fieldwork involving lifting equipment, standing, bending, stooping, or climbing over terrain;

collecting and processing soil, hazardous waste or water samples. The employee could potentially be exposed to soil, water, or hazardous wastes, and the work may require outdoor activities in various weather conditions.

This role also involves work with a drill rig, and the work sites may have a higher-than-average noise level due to equipment operation.

Required Education and Experience :

An associate’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred, but 3 to 5 years’ professional experience, at a minimum, is required.

A commercial driver’s license with endorsements is preferred, or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
