Job Overview

MG Engineering DPC is seeking a talented and experienced Electrical Designer to join our dynamic team in New York, NY. This role is essential in providing innovative design solutions and technical support across various projects.

You will work closely with the Lead Electrical Designer and project team, contributing to the creation of detailed electrical schematics and layouts, performing critical project functions, and ensuring seamless communication with all project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Drafting : Create precise trade-specific schematics and layouts using solid design principles. Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to develop detailed electrical plans, including conduit and wire sizing, electrical load calculations, and component selection.

Project Functions : Conduct site surveys, perform calculations, select equipment, and layout electrical systems. Assist with all phases of project development, from initiation to close-out.

Construction Administration : Participate in the construction administration process by processing and reviewing shop drawings, conducting field observations, and preparing comprehensive reports.

Collaboration and Communication : Maintain effective communication with peers, supervisors, vendors, consultants, clients, and stakeholders.

Facilitate smooth project execution and ensure client satisfaction.

Job Captain Function : Assume the responsibilities of a Job Captain, overseeing specific project tasks and ensuring project milestones are met.

Qualifications

Experience : Minimum of 2 years as a Junior Designer under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Technical Skills :

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Basic understanding of electrical load calculations and NEC codes.

Soft Skills :

  • Excellent interpersonal and polished communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly organized and composed under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.

Role-Specific Competencies

Computer Aided Design :

AutoCAD :

  • Operate CAD workstation and manage files over a network.
  • Create basic geometry using 2D commands and organize entities on appropriate layers.
  • Utilize drawing aids and create professional annotations.
  • Understand orthographic and multi-view projection.
  • Use inquiry commands, blocks, and the Design Center effectively.

Revit :

  • Launch and navigate Revit projects.
  • Review graphic layouts and understand sheet sets for submissions.

Electrical Engineering :

  • Understand and apply basic conduit and wire sizing principles.
  • Draft comprehensive electrical system plans, details, risers, and schedules.
  • Recognize differences in electrical components and their applications.
