Department Overview

Reach for Resources is a nonprofit agency based out of Minnetonka, Minnesota. We provide recreation, education, case management, advocacy, counseling, and health programs to individuals with disabilities living in the Minneapolis western metro area.

Our recreation department contracts with parks and recreation partners to provide adaptive recreation, inclusion and training services to their community members.

Job Summary

The Adaptive & Inclusive Sports Intern at Reach for Resources will work closely with the recreation team to provide support and services to children with disabilities and their families for sports programs.

The intern will be responsible for supporting children with disabilities in typical sports settings, facilitating adaptive sports (bowling, softball, basketball, pickleball, soccer), and providing administrative support for these programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the parks and recreation staff by providing paraprofessional support at sports programs including but not limited to : soccer, dance, tball, basketball, downhill ski / snowboard lessons, ice skating lessons, swimming, and more!
  • Facilitate adaptive sports programs (sports offered depend on the season)
  • Provide administrative assistance such as designing and ordering team jerseys, printing rosters, sending email reminders, and monitoring weather for weather cancellations
  • Provide ongoing communication and feedback to program supervisors
  • Share ideas for future program improvement
  • Complete needed paperwork and trainings in a timely fashion
  • Learn and utilize many different behavior management strategies to help all participants be successful
  • Assist in designing a stretch routine or drills for practices
  • Assist in communication of inclusion plans with families
  • Coordinate volunteers who can assist with coaching opportunities

Requirements :

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in social work, psychology, education, or a related field
  • Experience working with children with disabilities
  • Knowledge of disability services and inclusion practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Must have current driver’s license in good standing and maintain own reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
