MUSC
Charleston, South Carolina, United States
Full-time

Job Description

Summary

Seeking highly motivated individuals for staff scientist positions in neuroimmunology for projects that encompasses basic and translational research.

Work in the laboratory is centered around the complement system and neuroinflammatory mechanisms. Ongoing projects involve investigating acute and chronic neuroimmune responses occurring after stroke or after different types of traumatic brain injury, including the long-term neurodegenerative sequalae of injury.

For example, one project is focused on traumatic brain injury as a risk factor for Alzheimer’s Disease. Another project investigates pathogenic mechanisms of postnatal hemorrhagic stroke and neurodevelopmental consequences.

Studies utilize various mouse models, and the laboratory is also developing several novel transgenic animals for these studies.

Techniques currently utilized include advanced microscopy, cellular and molecular immune profile analysis, high dimensional analyses, and detailed assessments of motor and cognitive functions.

The laboratory is also involved in the development (and commercialization) of novel therapeutic approaches, and has been a leader in the development of novel targeted complement inhibitory strategies.
