This position is located in the USUHS, School ofMedicine, Department of Neurology, and is geographically located at a USU affiliated medical center or duty station location within oroutside of the Washington, DC to Metro area (i.

e., Brooke Army Medical Center, Naval Medical Center San Diego, Walter Reed National MilitaryMedical Center, etc) as required.

The Department of Neurology assesses the skills, knowledge, and professionalism of medical studentsnecessary for success in graduate medical education and military medical practice.

The department promotes academic excellence of allstudents and residents throughout military graduate medical education.

The Department of Neurology fosters academic excellence through effectivefaculty development programs, periodic faculty review, and robust support for academic advancement.

Major Duties : The incumbent serves as an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure ineligible track) in theDepartment of Neurology and as such is responsible for overseeing teaching and academic activities, research, patient care / clinicalactivities, and administrative assignments.

The incumbent will demonstrate proficiency in clinical education. The incumbent engagesin scholarly activity by serving as a research advisor for undergraduate medical students, assisting in planning programs, settingobjectives, evaluating progress, and publishing manuscripts in peer-review scientific journals.

The incumbent evaluates, gives feedback to,and recommends grades for all students with whom they work.

In coordination with other faculty members in the Department ofNeurology, the successful candidate directs curriculum development and quality control for all Neurology courses in order to ensure theprofessional and academic development of each student.

The incumbent recruits faculty for all departmental and interdepartmentalcourses to enhance clinical skills, clinical reasoning, and will participate in clinical clerkship teaching.

The incumbent willparticipate in the instruction of the USUHS School of Medicine curriculum to students throughout all four years of medical school.

Thisincludes teaching pre-clerkship medical students in areas of basic neuroscience, clinical skills, clinical reasoning, and the application ofclinical science to basic science.

The incumbent is expected to be actively involved in patient care, perform appropriate technicalprocedures, and oversee patient care activities performed by staff and students in their area of expertise.

The incumbent will teachand oversee clerkship medical students on inpatient and outpatient services and instruct, educate and oversee students and residents onrounds.

The incumbent is responsible for teaching clinical neuroscience to students within the USUHS Graduate School.

The incumbentmay serve on a major standing committee and prepare staff reports.

Represents the University at professional gatherings, deliverslectures, and participates in meetings and panel discussions at other institutions in part to exchange information of mutual interest.

Qualification Requirements : Requires a minimum of a medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited university, board certification inNeurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, maintain an active license to practice medicine in a state, and be credentialedfor the full range of Neurology practice in a USU affiliated hospital or duty site.

The position requires : substantial experience inteaching medical students and / or residents; and exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills to prepare and providepresentations, lectures, publications, and / or reports, to teach and to represent University at meetings or public forums.

TheClinical Educator must demonstrate success in personal research, scholarship, and publications and hold active membership in scholarlysocieties appropriate to the Department of Neurology.

The selected candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointmentat the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in accordance with SOM and USUHS academic policies.

Other Position Factors : Thisposition requires direct patient care and / or clinical activities; as such, the incumbent will be subject to pre-employment and random drugtesting requirements under the USUHS Drug-Free Workplace Program.

The incumbent will be required to travel to various sites within and outside the Washington metro area or around theUnited States to perform work and / or training activities as directed.
