Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary :

As part of the Risk Reduction & Reentry (R3) program, this position provides programming and risk reduction services to adult female residents at Topeka Correctional Facility.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following :

As part of the Risk Reduction & Reentry (R3) program, this position provides programming and recovery services to adult female residents at Topeka Correctional Facility.

  • In coordination with the programs staff, as directed by the Reentry Coordinator, deliver programming at TCF. This includes identifying residents needing programs;
  • building groups; delivering the curriculum; co-facilitating with other programs staff; ensuring an adequate dose of motivation;
  • responding effectively to behavior during groups; following the curriculum closely; doing extra 1 : 1 sessions as appropriate and necessary;

and ensuring robust aftercare, especially Advanced Practice. Ensuring that programming is evidence based and delivered with fidelity.

Participate in any training and planning necessary for this work. This position will take the lead on these groups for residents with diagnosed behavioral health needs, including mental health and dually diagnosed substance abuse as well as residents with sexual offender programing needs.

Develop, coordinate and deliver services to the targeted offender population that address recovery needs, by :

  • Establishing a referral process / protocol
  • Coordinating the care and support a resident needs to carry out his / her programming, convening multi-disciplinary teams when necessary for success.

Identifying gaps in services needed by residents and making recommendations for addressing them, facilitating referrals to appropriate resources and helping residents connect to appropriate integrated systems.

Being or becoming knowledgeable about the service delivery system in the area of your work, and areas where you are referring residents;

and helping the residents in the Resource Room find community and support services, directly, or through volunteer or paid mentors.

Providing support, information and guidance to residents in accessing resources and support; teaching residents how to do this on a lifelong basis;

all this either directly or through volunteer or paid mentors with whom you connect the resident.

  • Act as liaison for state Mentoring for Success staff and Mentors inside the facility. This includes making information about M4S available;
  • routing applications; and monitoring and guiding matches for safety and effectiveness. Ensure that mentors are focusing on risk reduction support including : transportation;

community identification; pro social leisure time activities; housing; employment; family dynamics. Ensure mentors receive support, information, responses to questions, all as needed.

Also ensure snap shots are completed, entered, and necessary follow up occurs based on content of snap shot. Ensure mentors are informed about safety and security, and have the appropriate information and response as needed when issues arise with mentees.

  • Work with KDOC staff (including unit team, parole, reentry, as applicable to work station / area) to ensure referrals are appropriate;
  • to ensure matches are supported; to ensure mentor work is consistent with supervision and case management. Trouble shoot when issues arise;

serve as a resource to staff on how to support the mentor matches. Build capacity of staff to work with mentors as part of case management.

Make ATHENA and Program Tracking entries as necessary, and otherwise maintain data and information related to processes and impact, and provide the information to the TCF R3C and as requested by the statewide Programs Director.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

One year of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications :

Two years experience delivering programming, preferably CBI and preferably to adult felons.

Two years experience using core correctional practice tools, specifically EPICS.

Two years experience working in a correctional facility.

Two years experience working closely with a multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based principles regarding correctional programming.

Demonstrated strong positive people influencing skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a team.

Demonstrated organizational and writing skills.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
