Posting for multiple positions in VISN 5. This position May BE eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) student loan payment reimbursement program.

You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements IAW VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) IAW the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification / licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Licensure and Registration : Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training : Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

NOTE : VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status). Approved residencies are : Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME / AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (, not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.

PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.

Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 Â 7402(d) and 7407(d).

  • Physical Requirements : VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Light lifting, under 15 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds;
  • Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (6hrs); Standing (6hrs); Repeated bending (2hrs); Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle;
  • Far vision correctable in one eye to 20 / 20 and to 20 / 40 in the other; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors;
  • Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted); Mental / emotional stability; Ability to perform privileges;
  • Independently performs physical exam as appropriate to position; Cognitive stability Work Environment : Work is performed primarily in a patient care setting;
  • adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated. Office temperatures fluctuate periodically; involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as clinics, offices, meeting and training rooms or libraries;

exposure to noise and dust on occasion. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative / invasive procedures.

Typical duties of ALL VA Providers : Provide consultation services and follow up of medical subspecialty patients, in designated field Center or one of the affiliated CBOCs (Community Based Outpatient Clinics) During the course of employment, participation in activities / committees / boards / projects pertinent to the sub-specialty may be necessary as dictated by strategic or other initiatives / taskings May be assigned duty as a supervising and / or collaborating physician for a mid-level provider(s) Expected to provide clinical oversight and review.

Supervising and / or collaborating responsibilities and performance will be noted in the physician's performance evaluation Expected to act as "surrogates " for the patients of their colleagues when one or more of their colleagues are on leave.

Demonstrates current clinical practice Provide guidance and clinical supervision for the nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and health technicians assigned when appropriate Teaching / mentoring medical students and residents assigned to Service Assist in the development, implementation, and expansion of clinical programs including, but not limited to appropriate call and clinic schedules and patient care Participate in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, to include, but not limited to Process Action Teams, Root Cause Analysis, collaboration with other sections, services, and Peer Review Provide quality patient care to patients in accordance with approved clinical privileges Participate in multidisciplinary activities Assist with the acquisition and maintenance of the equipment and supplies needed to provide the best care in your section Administrative duties : Maintain clinical privileges Complete mandatory training Conduct peer review Attend Attends Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferences, and staff meetings Submit leave requests and clinic modification requests Communicate coverage needs and issues or problems to management Perform other duties as assigned Recruitment / Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus) : Incentives May Be authorized for highly qualified candidates who possess unique skills and competencies needed by VISN 5.
