Overview :

We are hiring a Business Intelligence Analyst with MS Power BI development skills, a proven foundation of Data Science and mid-level Machine Learning and ML Ops skills to design, develop and move BI, Analytics and ML tools to production! Our efforts enhance and evolve business operations and scientific decision-making capability and related activities at ORNL.

This position resides in the Enterprise Applications & Business Intelligence group of the Application Development division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at (ORNL).

This position supports ORNL’s Business analytics applications and data engineering activities which potentially cover all areas of corporate data (business, human capital management, facilities, operations, and research).

ORNL’s BI cubes, models and analytics are heavily centered on Microsoft and SAP technologies, to include Visual Studio, SSIS packages and Dimensional Modeling and SQL 2016-2022 and SQL Azure.

Major Duties / Responsibilities :

Develop and support : Corporate reports and dashboards with PowerBI and other Microsoft reporting tools. Data warehouse technologies beyond the worlds of Microsoft and SAP.

SQL and ML applied experience and a general understanding of their potential use cases.

• Develop and implement master data management strategy to include implementation of measures to ensure data accuracy, cleanliness, transformation, and accessibility.
• Collaborate with business and scientific / technical customers to understand needs and capture detailed actionable requirements.
• Analyze emerging trends and technologies to provide recommendations for roadmaps and BI strategy including Cubes, SSIS, Visual Studio, Azure Data Factory, SQL, SQL Azure, and ML techniques and solution methods.
• Collaboration with other DOE labs and private sector companies to understand capabilities.
• Follow ORNL and ITSD software quality assurance standards, ITIL effective practices, and project management requirements.
• Provide personal training for end users as needed, on Business Intelligence tools and effective practices.

Basic Qualifications :

A BS in computer science, data science, business analytics management, applied statistical analytics or a related technical field of study and two (2) to four (4) years of aligned experience is required for consideration.

MS and PhD degree holders in the same fields of study are also encouraged to apply. MS holders should have one (1) to three (3) years of aligned experience.

PhD holders may have any amount of experience.

• Prior Microsoft Business Intelligence development experience including requirements gathering, design, and deployment of reporting solutions.
• Candidates must demonstrate : a strong emphasis in delighting customer and end-user needs. excellent written and verbal communications skills.

excellent relational client-facing skills, effective exploratory analytical thinking, and attention to detail. the ability to innovate as work demands.

the demeanor of an analytical doer that creatively problem solves. a deeply curious approach toward novel development, planning, support, design, modification and testing of data warehouse cubes, models, dimensions, measures, views and reports.

experience creating BI solutions using MS Power BI, SQL, and MS Azure tool sets. experience with Microsoft SQL, Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code tools and APIs for analytic tool and visualization creation.

Large dashboards, ETL tools and methods (i.e. Power Query) or similar tools.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Microsoft Power BI and data visualization to represent sophisticated data concepts that foster business transparency and support effective decision making.
• Understanding of ETL (extract, transform, load) framework.
• Understanding of multidimensional and tabular modeling.
• Experience using SQL Server Database engine (SSMS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code, Python.
• Experience with current Data Science or Data Analytic tools including low code-no code.
• Knowledge of current ORNL business processes and applications (or similar).
• Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint technologies.
