Description

The Development Director will plan and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to ensure the organization raises the resources it needs to pursue its mission and vision in a values aligned manner.

To further the mission of Family Promise of Greater Washington County, this role must collaborate closely with the Executive Director and the Finance team to lead fundraising efforts across grants, contracts, sponsorships, major donor relationships, special appeals and events, and grassroots fundraising.

This is a hybrid position.

  • Organizational Budget : Approximately $1 million
  • Effective date : July 1, 2024
  • Employment Status : Full-time, 40 hours per week including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • FLSA status : Exempt
  • Primary location : Hybrid on and off site with occasional travel to donor meetings and events. Locations in Beaverton and Hillsboro, Oregon

Job Summary

The Development Director will plan and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to ensure the organization raises the resources it needs to pursue its mission and vision in a values aligned manner.

To further the mission of Family Promise of Greater Washington County, this role must collaborate closely with the Executive Director and the Finance team to lead fundraising efforts across grants, contracts, sponsorships, major donor relationships, special appeals and events, and grassroots fundraising.

Essential Duties

  • Drive and develop FPGWC’s Annual Development Plan, focused on a diversified and comprehensive fundraising strategy.
  • Identify and cultivate a pipeline and relationships with individual donors, faith-based organizations, corporate sponsors, foundations, and government agencies to secure a diverse portfolio of financial support.
  • Function as a primary liaison to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors regarding all fundraising activities.
  • Represent our organization in the community when seeking opportunities for collaboration and partnership that align with our mission.
  • Support a culture of ethical storytelling among staff and leadership team members.
  • Research and identify mission-aligned grant opportunities.
  • Manage grant calendar.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals and manage the grant application process, ensuring prompt submission and compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Identify new government-sourced grant opportunities and expand the organization’s corporate grant strategy.
  • Build and support strong relationships with existing and prospective individual donors and major gift donors ($500+).
  • Develop and implement a successful stewardship strategy and techniques to ensure donor retention and engagement.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to donors, addressing inquiries and acknowledging contributions promptly, as well as stewarding them through various means including events, one-on-one visits, site visits, appeals, campaigns, etc.
  • Supervise the production of donor correspondence including gift acknowledgments, thank you notes, and tax letters.
  • Design, plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events, community events, client events, and events to raise awareness of community need and the services provided by FPGWC.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure successful event planning, execution, and follow-up.
  • Serve on the Event Planning committee.
  • Produce and / or draft copy for engaging fundraising materials, newsletters, annual report, collateral materials, and email updates.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and vendors that pertain to the organization’s development program.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Finance team to develop and manage the development budget.
  • Monitor income and expenses related to fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial sustainability.
  • Track and report on fundraising progress and outcomes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain correct and up-to-date donor records in existing donor software.
  • Travel to and attend conferences, fundraising and community events, and client events.
  • Supervise and train Community Engagement Specialist.

Qualifications

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience :
  • 5+ years in nonprofit fundraising, with specific knowledge of PNW and Oregon nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience working with individual and major gift donors, grant research and writing, and event planning.
  • Demonstratable success in asking for donation requests in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and nuances of addressing homelessness and poverty-related issues is preferred.
  • 1 year supervisory experience preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and make persuasive presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Strong people skills are critical to building and nurturing relationships with donors, board members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.

  • Work Setting FPGWC offices are situated indoors, in a working family shelter environment. Must be able to work with some workplace distractions.
  • Body Positioning In a typical day, one may sit for extended periods of time at a computer station, answer and speak on phones throughout the day, lift and carry light weight and medium weight supplies and equipment, and help in setting up for events and meeting functions.
  • Work attire is appropriate for the situation and the audience.
