Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
At the corporate level : Contribute to the development and execution of portfolio-level strategies to meet Alexandria’s 2030 operational GHG emissions reduction target, including advancing the Company’s renewable electricity strategy.
Participate in the advancement of Alexandria’s sustainability guidelines for design and construction projects and for operating assets.
Serve as a contributor to Alexandria’s sustainability disclosures, including in our Corporate Responsibility Report and to GRESB, CDP, and S&P CSA.
Lead Alexandria’s Labs2Zero energy benchmarking efforts.Support sustainability data collection, management, and analysis.
Collaborate with regional and functional teams to advance the execution of sustainability outcomes.
At the regional level : Lead the region’s renewable electricity strategy.Develop a strategy to reduce operational GHG emissions across the region’s operating asset base over time.
Conduct outreach to tenants to advance collaboration on sustainability outcomes.Engage with industry organizations and participate in municipal task forces to provide expertise on laboratory buildings and building performance standards.
Lead reporting to meet local regulatory requirements for energy, water, and emissions disclosures.Support the regional real estate development teams with the advancement of the Company’s sustainability guidelines for design and construction projects.
Collaborate with regional asset management teams to advance energy efficiency, water use, and waste reduction.Manage the region’s power purchase agreement.
Ensure that regional data is accurately tracked in Alexandria’s sustainability management platform.
Qualifications and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other field relevant to building design and operations required.
- Additional relevant certifications a plus. Examples include Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED AP, Fitwel Ambassador, etc.
- Minimum 10 years of experience developing and implementing energy efficiency and sustainability best practices and design and operational guidelines, as well as upgrading projects across a portfolio of existing buildings, with proven results.
- Experience working with, training, and motivating design, asset, and facility management teams to advance sustainability outcomes.
- Experience with renewable energy procurement.
- Experience with laboratory buildings, sensitive environments, and critical infrastructures a significant plus.
- Experience with LEED and healthy building certifications and programs a plus.
- Independent, analytical thinker and self-starter.
- Ability to work within a diverse, cross-functional team.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
