S&ME is looking for an experienced Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Materials Testing and Special Inspection team in Greensboro, North Carolina taking on a leadership role in overseeing and executing construction materials testing projects throughout the Piedmont-Triad and surrounding areas.

About The Role :

As an experienced Construction Materials Engineering Technician , your responsibilities encompass a range of tasks from reviewing plans to conducting special inspections, all aimed at guaranteeing the quality and integrity of construction projects.

Communication, leadership, and technical proficiency are key as you coordinate with various stakeholders and mentor junior staff.

Despite the challenges of outdoor work and project variations, the satisfaction of contributing to successful constructions makes this role both rewarding and impactful.

• Supervise, mentor, and train junior technicians while coordinating with project and operations managers.
• Review plans and specifications to prepare for field observations on construction sites.
• Perform and document field activities, testing results, and use Metafield or similar systems for reporting.
• Calibrate field and laboratory equipment according to industry standards.
• Conduct Special Inspections per International Building Code (IBC) guidelines.
• Communicate regularly with management, general contractors, and clients while assisting with project planning and execution.

Who You Are :

• You have a high school diploma / GED
• You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing / inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and / or asphalt materials
• You have two or more of following active certification(s) : American Concrete Institute (ACI) : Field Testing Grade I;

Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory TechnicianNICET : Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)International Code Council (ICC) : Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

You are willing and able to :

Perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as :

• Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field / laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
